Located in the relatively unexplored northeastern Morocco near the border with Algeria, Oujda’s main draw is its proximity to the Mediterranean coast. More adventurous travelers will also find plenty of history and tradition hiding beneath the surface. Here are two interesting road trips from Oujda:

• Sidi Maafa Park. Bordering the city’s southern borders, Sidi Maafa is a large public forest that’s popular for hikes or simply spending a long and pleasant day outdoors. The area is rocky and some of the climbs are quite steep, but this also means you’ll be rewarded with pleasant views from the tip. The drive from the center of Oujda takes about 20 minutes.
• Saidia. The coastal city of Saidia is only an hour’s drive north of Oujda, making it a very popular day trip for all sun and sea lovers. The public city beach stretches for 14 km (9 miles), making it one of the longest in the country, though with a rental car you can also find plenty of other, less busy spots as you travel further west along the coast. Saidia is bordered by Moulouya National Park, a protected marshland known for its great diversity of bird species. Every August, the city hosts a large folk museum festival.

The single terminal at Oujda Airport serves all domestic and international flights. The airport has two runways.

Location

The airport is about 12km (7 miles) north of Oujda. Highway N2 and Rue Mansour Dahbi are the main roads connecting the airport to the city. Oujda Airport is only about 15km (9.3 miles) from the Morocco–Algeria border, but the border crossing is currently closed.

Oujda Airport is quite small, but you’ll find a couple of cozy snack bars and cafés, as well as a few stores, two duty-free outlets, and gift shops selling local Moroccan products. There’s also a lounge, an ATM, a post office, and 24/7 medical service. Some of the airport’s facilities are friendly to travelers with reduced mobility, and special assistance is also offered, but you should contact your airline in advance if you’d like this service.

Nearest gas station

An Afriquia gas station will be on your right when you exit the airport and turn right towards the city. It can be reached in about ten minutes and is open 24/7. There are other gas stations in and around Oujda.
