Located in the relatively unexplored northwestern corner of Morocco, Nador retains a certain mystery even among experienced visitors of the country. Best known for its Mediterranean coastline, the city also has plenty of stories to tell and nearby nature to explore. These are four of the most interesting attractions in and around Nador:

• Corniche. A typical Mediterranean promenade, Nador’s Corniche is one of the city’s main thoroughfares – driving its full length is one of the best ways to get a good impression of Nador (although there is also a parallel pedestrian path lined with palm trees). Many of Nador’s most notable buildings, as well as some of its best restaurants, can be found here.
• Gourgou. Also known simply as the Big Mountain, Gourgou is located slightly away from the coast, but its steep elevation provides it with beautiful views of the city and the sea below. The area is also known for its large monkey population — while they are very fun to observe, make sure to keep a close eye on your belongings at all times.
• Beaches. The main reason to visit the area is that Nador is just a stone’s throw from a number of beautiful beaches. Some are located within the city’s borders, but even more exciting nearby options include Kariat Arkman Beach and Mar Chica Lagoon Nature Park to the east, as well as Charrana Beach to the north. Travel further west and the coastline changes significantly, becoming a lot less built up and wilder; adventurous travelers will go all the way to the Al Hoceima National Park which can be reached in about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Location

Nador Airport is about 25km (15.5 miles) southwest of downtown Nador and about 41km (25 miles) from the Spanish enclave of Melilla. Highways N2 and N19 are the main roads connecting the airport to Nador.

Services and facilities

Nador Airport is quite small, but you’ll find one restaurant, two cafés, some shops, including a duty-free outlet, ATMs, a currency exchange, two bank offices, a medical unit for emergencies, and a prayer room. Unfortunately, there is no luggage storage.

Nearest gas station

There is a Petrom gas station right next to Nador Airport on the left of Highway N2 when you leave the airport area and head towards the city. It can be reached in about four minutes. There are many other gas stations on the way to Nador and in the city.
