Airport travel guide

The capital of Bavaria and the largest city in Southern Germany, Munich can be a lovely place to visit. Whether you enjoy its cozy atmosphere, marvel at the architecture, or take a trip to the nearby Alps, all the right ingredients are in place for you to have a great time. Here are six suggestions for your trip:
- Old City. For many visitors, Munich’s Altstadt is the number one reason to visit the city. The reasons for this affection are obvious - it is the scenic waterfront location and the presence of such landmarks as the Old City Hall, English Garden, and Field Marschal’s Hall that make the area so attractive.
- Marienplatz. Marienplatz is the central square in Munich, Germany, known for its historical significance and vibrant atmosphere. It's home to the iconic Glockenspiel in the New City Hall, where visitors can see the mechanical show depicting Bavarian history and folklore, making it a must-see for tourists exploring the city.
- BMW Museum. The BMW Museum in Munich is a captivating institution that showcases the rich history and innovation of the renowned Bavarian automobile company. It houses a fascinating collection of BMW vehicles, ranging from classic cars to futuristic prototypes, and offers visitors an immersive journey through the evolution of automotive technology and design.
- Deutsches Museum. One of the largest in the world, the ‘German Museum’ is another tourist magnet in Munich - it draws as many as 1.5 million visitors every year, more than some countries! The museum has a strong focus on science and technology, includes a planetarium, and is great to visit for individuals, couples, and families.
- Botanical Garden Munich-Nymphenburg. Made up of a botanical garden, an arboretum, a greenhouse complex, and some historical buildings, Nymphenburg is one of the nicest green oases in the capital of Bavaria. According to the garden’s own data, close to 20,000 tree and plant species from Germany and all around the world can be found within it. The botanical garden celebrated its 110th birthday in 2024.
- Schliersee. Named after the highland lake on which it is located, Schliersee is a resort town known for its busy skiing slopes in winter and scenic hiking trails in summer. Easily accessible, the town is just a bit over an hour’s drive south of Munich, and can also serve as a convenient gateway to even higher peaks of the Alps.
