Airport travel guide

Located quite a bit north of Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland’s two largest cities and most popular tourist destinations, Aberdeen can be an equally fun place to visit. Well known for its architecture, the Granite City also boasts some quality cultural institutions and a lovely North Sea coastline. These are four of its most interesting attractions:
- Union Street. Speaking of the aforementioned granite architecture, there’s no better place to enjoy the highly original style than Union Street, one of Aberdeen’s main thoroughfares. The granite stretch is about a mile (1.6 km) long, and while not every house is built in the exact same manner, many of the city’s most famous buildings can be found here.
- Aberdeen Beach. Not many cities of its size can be found this far north anywhere in the world, but Aberdeen’s cold climate somehow makes its coastline even more attractive. The city’s main public beach is always busy and even welcomes brave surfers during the summer months. Visitors enjoy following the 4 km (2.5 mile) long Esplanade that largely runs parallel to the coast to take in the views of the sea or visiting sites like the Donmouth Wildlife Reserve at its northern end.
- Aberdeen Maritime Museum. There are several great museums and galleries in Aberdeen, but if you had to pick just one, the best choice would probably be the Maritime Museum. Explaining the proud port city’s long and intimate relationship with the North Sea, the largely interactive museum covers such varied subjects as commerce, climate, and culture.
- Aberdeen Art Gallery. One of the most important of its kind in Scotland, the Aberdeen Art Gallery hosts paintings, statues, and other artworks by both British and foreign creators. These include art by Courbet, Breton, Hogarth, and Monet. Centrally located, the gallery is near Union Terrace Gardens and several notable landmarks.
