Airport travel guide

One of the up-and-coming travel destinations of Great Britain, Belfast has mostly shed the tumultuous reputation of The Troubles era and reinvented itself as a vibrant, culturally relevant destination. A place of special character, it respects its own maritime and industrial heritage, all the while growing in terms of arts and entertainment. Belfast is also fit to serve as a hub for exploring the rest of Northern Ireland. With that in mind, these are four of the most interesting attractions in and around it:
- Ulster Museum. Not only the largest but also one of the most diverse and interesting in Northern Ireland, the Ulster Museum would be a highlight of any trip to Belfast. From Celtic and Viking artifacts to exhibits on botany and zoology, the latter of which includes a lovely collection of wildlife art, the museum can be explored for hours. The Ulster Museum is in the Botanic Gardens of Belfast, another popular tourist attraction.
- Belfast City Hall. Built in the early 20th century in the Baroque Revival style, Belfast City Hall is not among the oldest buildings in Northern Ireland but is definitely one of the most impressive ones. Located right at the heart of the city, it is home to notable points of interest like the Courtyard of Remembrance and the Titanic Memorial and is notable for its stained glass windows and ornate interior.
- Linen Quarter. Known for the many historical linen warehouses that gave this area of Belfast its name, it is now a hub of restaurants, cultural venues, and hotels. Many of the city’s best-known landmarks, such as the Grand Opera House, Ormeau Baths, St. Malachy’s Church, and Ulster Hall, are also located here. The latter is where Led Zeppelin first played their song Stairway to Heaven live, all the way back in 1971.
- Giant's Causeway. A popular day trip from the capital, the Giant’s Causeway is a 4 mile (6 km) long series of rocks on the northern coast of Northern Ireland. A Unesco World Heritage site, this natural attraction of volcanic origin can get quite busy but is nonetheless worth a visit. A car trip from Belfast will take about an hour.
