Airport travel guide

The capital and the largest city of the Scottish Highlands, Inverness usually serves as a gateway to that wild and fascinating Scottish region. While many of its most popular attractions are actually located outside the city’s borders, there’s also lots to enjoy in Inverness itself. These are three of the most notable attractions and points of interest to visit in and around it:
- Architecture. Inverness might only have a population of about 47,000 people, but the city punches way above its weight when it comes to impressive buildings. Some of the most notable examples include the clifftop Inverness Castle, Inverness Cathedral (an important example of Gothic Revival architecture), the modern Inverness Museum & Art Gallery (itself one of the most interesting attractions in the city), and the Abertarff House which, at the respectable of almost 430 years, is the oldest house in Inverness.
- Inverness Botanical Gardens. The Highlands are famous for their majestic nature, but you don’t need to leave Inverness to be able to enjoy some greenery. Though fairly small, Inverness Botanical Gardens is one of the most interesting places to visit in the city. Free to enter, visitors can enjoy not just the main gardens, but also the Secret Garden a.k.a. GROW Project (which stands for Garden, Recycle, Organic, and Wildlife).
- Cairngorms National Park. Located just a 40-minute drive from Inverness, but taking up a significant portion of Scotland, the Cairngorms is one of the most impressive protected areas in all of the United Kingdom. The area is known for its many hiking trails of various difficulty, snow-capped peaks, many wildlife species, and, naturally, amazing landscapes.
