We drove all around Iceland (except the Western Fjords area) and the car was reliable through all kinds of weather and terrain.

I encourage visitors to Iceland to spend just a little time in Reykjavik, and focus their time and energy on getting out into the country.

We had a Dacia Duster a great 4x4. Ran fine was good in the snow and on the icy roads. Glacier lake was awesome, food was good our hotels were great.

Golden Circle, Lava Tunnel, Lava Show, Ice Cave, Food Tour, Northern Lights, Grillmarket, The Laundromat, Lebowski’s Bar, Icelandic Street Food, etc.

Great waterfalls and saw northern lights.

Made it around Ring Road and enjoyed all the falls and canyons. Went through a blizzard that was not so fun. But overall it was a trip of a lifetime that we’ll never forget!

The 4wd made it possible to really get out and see a lot of Iceland. An amazing place!

Blue Lagoon was nice but quite pricey-- there are much cheaper geothermal pools around the country, and we considered to going to one on the East Coast (think it was near Eidar, for less than half price). Kirkjubaejarklaustur is stunning. The unexpected gem of our trip was Petra's Stone collection. Car advice I wished we knew going in: if you are doing the Ring Road, consider getting a hybrid or EV vehicle (plug should be in the trunk under covers). There are electric charging stations along the island. ON Power Charging station has an app that works with VISA cards (tried MasterCard, didn't work) and also the best array of plug outlets -- we used Type 2 plugs for our hybrid. VIRTA charging stations don't exist even though they're on Google Maps. The car takes about 1.5 hours to charge up fully, and you'll save on gas while you're eating dinner. On gas: we went to N1 stations because our American cards didn't work at any of the station's kiosks, but N1 at least has people inside the stations that can open the pump or sell you a gas card to use. N1 is slightly pricier than Orkan/other brands from what I could tell, so I would test your credit card at those stations and see if it works. Also, make sure you know the PIN number for your card at these gas stations. For parking: there are 2 apps you can use, EasyPark or Parka. Would HIGHLY recommend EasyPark over Parka (you can see by the reviews that Parka often takes your money). Be wary of fines -- pay the toll on the bridge near Akuyeri on time, and watch out for speeding cameras to the north of Reykavik. Grocery stores: Bonus is very cheap but has less of a selection of fresh food (like fruits and veggies). I was craving these things and Netto has a better selection.

I highly recommend exploring the island by car. Iceland is a beautiful island. I circled the entire island, mainly by road no 1 and confirm: 2-wheel car (in summer) is enough. I was captivated by the waterfalls, they are amazing. Sometimes you have to drive off the main road to reach them, but most of the roads to the main attractions are well prepared.

The natural scenery was unexpectedly different and amazingly beautiful! Also, I found the Icelanders to be very friendly and pleasant.

We Were exploring reykjaness pennisula and that was spectacular.

Drove from Reykjavik to Akureyri and made our way back slowly along the coast and the snaefellsnes pennisula, then down south in thingvellir and laugervatn. Felt very secure in the car and drove carefully to avoid any rogue gravel or high winds! Make sure to hold onto your door when you open it. Don't speed! As a non-local I didn't feel like I wanted to speed at all anyway, but they have cameras all around, so watch out for those. The folks at icerental4x4 give great advice and make sure everyone knows to pay for the tunnel up near Akureyri. Can't wait to come back to Iceland for some repeat visits and some new spots I'm still dying to see! What an incredible trip, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for adventure, magic, and some of the most incredible landscapes in the world.

This is a vacation for the outdoor person, this car will get you there!

They were easy to deal with and were able to accomodate a last minute change for a different vehicle.

Allowed us to travel the Golden circle, blue lagoon, southern shore and the various stops along those routes. Traveled over 1000 km over 7 days.

I drove the Ring Road and this car was perfect. While I went on a few maintained gravel roads, it was still nice to know I had the 4WD.

If you drive in the country side go for 4x4.

Car needed to access some of the remote locations on Iceland

I found out that it was much cheaper to pick up a car at Keflavik Airport, than in Reykjavik.

Make sure you pay for parking in Iceland when at national parks/sites that require paid parking. Studded tires are a must in the winter.

I think it's a must to have a car in iceland unless you're staying in the city centre of Reykjavik and are happy to pay the high tour and transfer prices

There is A good exprience to drive in Iceland.

Definitely a requirement as the Keflavik airport is a good distance from the nearest town, Reykjavik. Our 4x4 car was very reliable and easily coped with the heavy snow we encountered. We considered it good value, comfortable and economical.

Driving is easy in Iceland, traffic is less congested than in England.

you need a car here. most certainly. 4 wheel drive also a must.
