Known for its unhurried pace of life and arid volcanic landscapes, Fuerteventura is markedly different from neighboring islands like Gran Canaria and Tenerife. During the warmer part of the year, it also becomes one of the region’s surfing and kitesurfing meccas. Here are three of its most interesting attractions:

• Puerto del Rosario. Located on the northeastern coast, Puerto del Rosario is the capital and largest city of Fuerteventura. Many visitors use it as a hub for exploring the rest of the island, and while that is certainly an option, it has a number of worthwhile attractions itself. These include Our Lady of Rosario Church; the Museum of Miguel de Unamuno, the celebrated Spanish writer who spent many years on the island; and the city’s scenic port and promenade.
• Jandia. Both the southernmost peninsula of Fuerteventura and a nature preserve of the same name, Jandia is one of the most visited areas of the island. Some of the area’s settlements have been turned into popular tourist resorts and boast beautiful beaches while others retain a more local character focused on fishing and agriculture. The drive from Puerto del Rosario takes about an hour. 
• Corralejo. Located at the other geographic extreme of the island is Corralejo, a town also known for its beaches, parties, and natural beauty. In addition to the aforementioned qualities, Corralejo is bordered by Sand Dune National Park, the only one of its kind on Fuerteventura, where you can appreciate the desert-like landscapes that the island is known for. The drive from Puerto del Rosario to Corralejo takes about 30 minutes.

Location

Fuerteventura Airport is about 5 km (3.1 mi) southwest of Puerto del Rosario, the largest city on the island of Fuerteventura. Motorway FV-2 is the main road connecting the airport to the city.

Services and facilities

You’ll find a cafeteria, a bar, and an ice cream parlor, as well as convenience stores, gift shops selling local crafts, and a duty-free shop in the departures area. There are also several ATMs, a bank, a currency exchange, first aid services, a pharmacy, a lost and found office, a baggage wrapping machine, and a children’s play area. Nearest gas station

DISA gas station, located at 35600 Puerto del Rosario, can be reached in about four minutes and is open 24/7. There are many other gas stations near the airport and on the island.
