Airport Car Rental
Known for its unhurried pace of life and arid volcanic landscapes, Fuerteventura is markedly different from neighboring islands like Gran Canaria and Tenerife. During the warmer part of the year, it also becomes one of the region’s surfing and kitesurfing meccas. Here are three of its most interesting attractions:
- Puerto del Rosario. Located on the northeastern coast, Puerto del Rosario is the capital and largest city of Fuerteventura. Many visitors use it as a hub for exploring the rest of the island, and while that is certainly an option, it has a number of worthwhile attractions itself. These include Our Lady of Rosario Church; the Museum of Miguel de Unamuno, the celebrated Spanish writer who spent many years on the island; and the city’s scenic port and promenade.
- Jandia. Both the southernmost peninsula of Fuerteventura and a nature preserve of the same name, Jandia is one of the most visited areas of the island. Some of the area’s settlements have been turned into popular tourist resorts and boast beautiful beaches while others retain a more local character focused on fishing and agriculture. The drive from Puerto del Rosario takes about an hour.
- Corralejo. Located at the other geographic extreme of the island is Corralejo, a town also known for its beaches, parties, and natural beauty. In addition to the aforementioned qualities, Corralejo is bordered by Sand Dune National Park, the only one of its kind on Fuerteventura, where you can appreciate the desert-like landscapes that the island is known for. The drive from Puerto del Rosario to Corralejo takes about 30 minutes.

We had a great time on the island with some stunning drives through Betancuria and to the beeches on the East Coast. It is a quiet island and with a very sparse transport system, a car is a must. Be wary though that some roads are forbidden in a hire car as they are not tarmac but they are few. The roads are great to drive on!

In Fuerteventura El Cofete beach and Corralejo dunes are absolutely must-see places but the island interior is also worth visiting. Great place for holiday, we will go there again for sure!

The island is a bit different, but nice to see. The rough shores at the West and the beautiful South is worth seeing. Some of the roads are off-road. A roadster is then not the best suitable type of ride. The ofher ways are really good maintained.

We hired a car as our hotel was in quite a rural location, we used the car daily for a short drive around the corner from our hotel room to the hotel restaurant and pool area. We went to 2 separate beaches 20 minutes away which were both lovely and we also drove to a shopping centre and a pharmacy. Very light use of the car but it was definitely needed for the location of our hotel.

Betancuria is lovely old town but the roads are a little tricky. El Cotillo has a nice beach rather for surfing but the town is also pretty and food is fantastic. I recommend restaurant La Marisma. Gran Tarajal is very interesting. There are many beautiful places at Fuerteventura but nothing to specially highlight.

Renting from Orlando couldn't be easier. Good value rental, professional staff and easy process throughout. Close to the airport and didn't have to wait long for the pick up shuttle. Easy drop off and again didn't have to wait long before getting the shuttle back to the airport. Fuerteventura was easy to drive in. Relatively few cars on the road and other drivers were courteous. Would certainly rent from Orlando again when visiting the Island.
