Airport travel guide

The second-largest of the three Balearic Islands, Menorca is also the most serene. While still a popular tourist attraction, the atmosphere is slightly more relaxed and slow-paced than that of Mallorca or Ibiza, all the while matching the attractiveness of their coastline. On top of that, Menorca is also home to a number of notable historical sites. These are four of the island’s most notable attractions:
- Monte Toro. Also called simply El Toro in the native Balearic Catalan, the highest point on Menorca is a popular tourist attraction. While it only reaches the relatively modest height of 358 m (1,175 feet), that is enough to provide awesome views of the island and the sea below. History lovers will no doubt also appreciate the Virgin of Toro Gothic church which dates back to the 17th century. Unless you feel like climbing, the summit can be easily accessed by car.
- Ciutadella. Located near the island’s western tip, the historic town of Ciutadella has lost its former title as the capital of Menorca but remains one of its most interesting attractions. Inhabited for about 2,400 years, Ciutadella boasts attractions like its scenic cathedral and the Sant Agusti known for the beautiful gardens inside its courtyard, as well as the prehistoric megalith of Naveta des Tudons that even predates the city itself.
- Beaches. For all the historical and cultural heritage that Menorca boasts, the island’s number one attraction remains its stunning coastline. Easily accessible, 220 km (137 miles) long, and surprisingly tranquil outside of the main tourist areas, it has everything that makes for a great beach holiday. If you’re looking for something more active than just soaking up the sun, a number of popular surfing spots dot both the north and the south coast.
- Lithica. A former stone quarry that’s now been turned into a complex of gardens, mazes, and stone sculptures, Lithica is one of the most imaginative and interesting landmarks of the Balearic Islands. Although a part of the island’s industrial heritage, the layout of the place takes inspiration from an ancient Greek myth. Lithica is located just northeast of the previously mentioned Ciutadella, about a 45-minute ride from Menorca Airport.
