We got the car changed at the first day because of the engine-lamp light. We were told to drop of the car and change it at the airport. We didnt fuel the car because we were told to drive directly to the airport. At the airport we were told to pay for the gas, which we accepted - allthough we refused to pay a tax for not fueling it, because the engine lamp turned on wasnt liable to us.
Returning the new car at the end of the rent period was quiet difficult, Because afterall we didnt pay the gas at the airport, we payed an intern tax for not fueling the car! We were Then asked to pay Almost 20€, which we refused. We ended up paying around 5 € for gas, and waiting Almost 40 minutes when dropping of the car, because of Ilha Verdas customservice and wrong charge when changing the car.

The airport is just 10 mins from PD and all car hire agents have reps at the airport and near the city centre. Take your pick to suit arrival time and cost.
Public transport is limited so tours or car hire is essential.
