How much are the administration fees for processing traffic fines?
Receiving a post-trip charge is never fun! If you picked up a traffic violation (like a speeding ticket, parking fine, or unpaid toll) during your trip, the rental supplier usually charges an administration fee. This fee typically ranges between €30 and €50 (or the equivalent in your local currency) for each fine.
Step-by-Step Guide:
Payment 1 (The Admin Fee): The €30–€50 charge on your card comes from the rental supplier. This covers their administrative cost to pull your contract, process the paperwork, and transfer the ticket to your name with the local police.
Payment 2 (The Actual Fine): The actual traffic fine will arrive separately by mail (sometimes months later!), directly from the local government authorities for you to pay.
You can find the exact amount of this administration fee listed in the specific terms (often under "Local Fees" or "Traffic Violations") of the contract you signed at the rental counter. Since this is an agreed-upon fee with the local supplier, we aren't able to refund it.
Take a quick look at your email for a final invoice from the supplier.
It's usually labelled as a "Traffic Administration Fee" or "Processing Fee."
"I already paid the speeding ticket directly to the police, so the rental company shouldn't charge me."
The rental company's administration fee is completely separate from the police fine. Even if you've already paid the ticket, the supplier still needs to cover their administrative cost for processing your data.
"I purchased Full Coverage, so this 'Admin Fee' should be reimbursed."
Here is an important distinction! While Full Coverage does a great job protecting against Damage Administration Fees, it doesn't cover Traffic Violation Administration Fees, the actual traffic fines, tolls, or fuel.
What To Do Next:
If you see this charge but haven't received the actual ticket yet, you can reach out directly to the rental supplier to request a copy of the official violation notice.
If you need a hand, we can easily help you request a copy of the notice from the supplier.
Since local authorities handle the actual tickets, you'll just need to contact the police directly if you have questions about the validity or status of the traffic fine itself!
