Rent a car at Zakynthos Airport and head to Zakynthos Town! Hang out at the city square—with its bars, restaurants, and cultural centers, it’s the most happening part of town. Drive your rental to Cape Skinari to check out the Blue Caves, visit the shipwreck at Navagio Beach, and make sure to see the nearby Agios Gergio Kremnao Monastery.
Then head to the beach to relax and swim, and maybe do some water sports. Agios Nikolaos Beach and Alikes Beach are more crowded but fun, while Dafni Beach and Xehoriati Beach are calmer and favored by the locals. Restaurants in the smaller towns and villages feature local ingredients like olive oil, currants, and honey, and delicious dishes like briam (roasted vegetables) and stifado.
Having your own vehicle on Zakynthos will enable you to visit the island’s less touristy areas, or. If your car provider allows it, take a ferry to mainland Greece and visit the ancient sites at Olympia and beyond. You can even pick up your rental car at Zakynthos Airport and drop it off in a different city.
Zakynthos Airport is also known as Zante Airport and “Dionysios Solomos,” named after the poet from the island of Zakynthos who authored the national anthem of Greece. I have had bad experience and see reviews renting cars in different countries and company, as they always try to push you their expensive insurance or other add-ons with high pressure tactics... or charge you when returning the car for different excuses anything from cleaning to scratches...
After reading the reviews of other rental companies in Zakynthos, DIRENT had all good reviews. I did not believe until I met Nicholas... he was very friendly and quickly did the paperwork and gave me a very nice clean new car. I showed proof of my credit card insurance and my international driving license nothing else was asked and I received a perfectly car within minutes... there was no pressure or excuses to sell me anything extra... it was incredible experience and to top it all up I had a problem regarding a different travel issue and Nicholas was kind enough to spend his time and help me as if a best friend would... he made phone calls for me and researched on line and bent backwards to help me solve a problem I had, which was very urgent .... I was tired jet-lagged and confused but Nicholas helped me solve everything and sent me on my way in my car which was also very reasonably priced as I had booked from Discovery cars a very good rate.... I give perfectly all star rating for DIRENT and especially Nicholas thank you for the wonderful experience.

Make sure you are not scared of driving on small streets without any road signs! Zakynthos is super nice to visit, a car in necessary to see the most beautiful spots of the island. Do not miss the view of the Navagio from the cliff and the boat trip (do prefer the trip of the west coast, and better take part on an excursion on a small boat with max 20-30 people on it), Gerakas Beach and eventually Dafni beach, even though the road to this last beach is not very nice. I also recommend the north, especially Skinari Cape and Xigia Beach - do prefer little Xigia which is much less crowdy and very relaxing. On the west coast, do not miss Porto Limnionas (usually very crowdy) and Porto Roxa (much less people than in Posto Limnionas). A visit to the city center of Zakynthos is also worth a visit. If you want to see a beutiful sunset, go to Ionian sunset cafe near Keri lighthouse.
Of course, eat local cousine! Greek cuisine is simple and genuine, if you choose a local taverna you will also spend very few money. Recommended dishes: grilled sardines, souvlaki, pita gyros, baklava (sweet).

It is narrow mountainous terrain. If you're going to Vasilikos for the first time, maybe it is better not drive in the dark until you have familirized yourself with the road. It is a awesome beautiful place to go. Do visit the Logothetis Organic Olive Oil Farm and taste olive oil in its most purest form.

There are narrow roads with dangerous corners, the traffic culture is crazy, so the driver should be cautios and careful. The traffic culture is relevant for the whole Greece country, not for Zakynthos. Anyway, more easier to rent a car/other vehicle at the airport, otherwise somehow you should manage to get to Zakynthos ;)
