Tenerife is rightfully known as a beach and water sports mecca, but it is also home to two of the most interesting cities in all of the Canary archipelago – the international Santa Cruz and the learned San Cristobal. Both are just a short drive away from Tenerife North, one of the two international airports serving the island. Here are three of their best attractions:

• Santa Cruz. Located on the northeastern coast, the co-capital of the archipelago is a fascinating place to explore. It’s been inhabited for 2,000 years, and under Spanish rule since the 15th century, and boasts many historical sights and points of interest, as well as a lively cultural scene. Make sure to check out the fascinating Museum of Nature and Archaeology, as well as the Palmetum, a botanical garden dedicated to the native palms of the Canaries.
• San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Located away from the coast in an elevated part of the island, San Cristobal is the oldest city in Tenerife. Its well-preserved historical center boasts many landmarks and has earned the city UNESCO World Heritage status. You’ll find many heritage buildings that date back for centuries, but also more contemporary attractions like the Museum of Science and the Cosmos.
• Anaga Rural Park. Although not as famous or large as Teide National Park, Anaga is one of the most interesting nature parks in the northern part of the island. A mixture of highlands, deep valleys, green slopes, and wild beaches, it is home to unique local flora species like the Dragon tree. Much of the park is open for hikers, but some parts are off-limits due to nature protection measures, so make sure to be mindful of the signs.

Tenerife North Airport is in the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna and 11 km (6.8 mi) northwest of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the largest city on the island of Tenerife. Motorway TF-5 is the main road connecting the airport to Santa Cruz.

Tenerife North Airport is quite small, but you’ll find a few shops, cafeterias, and fast food outlets. There are also ATMs in the arrivals and departures halls, a bank with a currency exchange, a luggage wrapping service, and a pharmacy. Nearest gas station

Gasolinera T-Gas Los Baldíos, located at TF-265, km 3, Carretera San Francisco de Paula, can be reached in about 13 minutes and is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. There are many other gas stations near Tenerife North Airport and in Santa Cruz.
