Airport travel guide

Home to a fascinating indigenous and colonial past, as well as an equally exciting cultural present, the capital of Mexico can be explored for weeks. Whether you come for architecture or entertainment, hospitality, cuisine, or art, you’re likely to find what you’re looking for. These are four of Mexico City’s most interesting attractions:
- National Museum of Anthropology. The largest and most visited in all of the country, the MNA is a great place to learn about the indigenous societies and kingdoms of Mexico, as well as the country’s relatively more recent pages after the arrival of the Europeans. In addition to a vast permanent collection, the museum frequently hosts various rotating exhibitions. Visit its excellent website to learn more (you can change the language from Spanish to English in the top-right corner).
- Zócalo. Hanging out in the main square (also known as the Square of the Constitution) is another archetypical experience of visiting Mexico City. As huge as it is busy, Zócalo is famous for the large Mexican flag at its center, and it is surrounded by countless other notable landmarks.
- Plaza Garibaldi-Mariachi. Some call it a tourist trap while others are convinced it’s a tourist’s delight, but there’s no question that Mariachi music is a significant part of Mexican culture, so seeing the various folk bands of this plaza will be a memorable experience. The square is a bit north of the city center, near the National Museum of Art.
- Soumaya. Made up of two museums, Plaza Carso and Plaza Loreto, the Soumaya is one of the most important art institutions in all of North America. The museums host works by the most important Mexican artists, as well as internationally renowned masters such as Rubens, el Greco, Rodin, Dali, and many others. The Plaza Carso building is also instantly recognizable for its futuristic design that is pure imagination (this building also houses Colección Jumex, a contemporary art museum).
