A large and very well-rated car rental business, Mode operates in the remote island country of New Zealand. More specifically, on the North Island it serves New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, where it serves both the international airport and the city center, and Wellington, the capital. On the South Island, it has locations in Christchurch and Queenstown.
Mode allows its vehicles to be taken on ferries between the North and South Islands without any additional fees, so you can travel the entire country with your rental car. The company doesn’t have the facilities to let you drop off your car on one side of the Cook Straight and pick up another one on the other as a few other rental companies do. Mode also offers one-way rentals, even between the islands. The prices and availability of that depend on the season though. Sometimes when they need to relocate vehicles, you can find great deals.
