Mode Car Rentals at Wellington Airport

Pros: Very helpful once I heard direct

Cons: I used a thirdparty provider and they were terrible, no support and 2 days to respond with no solution. They made it near impossible for me to get the car and I would've cancelled but an agent from Mode directly called me just in time.

Pros: The pickup. We were so concerned about our poor treatment at pickup we drove out of our way the day before to make sure the drop off location was legit.

Cons: DIRTY, DIRTY INSIDE AND OUT!!!! I can't believe what happened to us. I am 64 and have been renting cars and traveling around the world for many years and Mode Wellington was the worst I car rental business have ever used.

Pros: Changing the return location reom Auckland Airport to Auckland downtown was no issue.

Cons: To register everything upfront pick-up is fine. But why then paying an outside office hours fee when I do anyway the registration? The return at Auckland downtown is a nightmare: difficult to find, roads closed due to a concert nearby and finding the key-box needs Sherlock Holms capabilities. Clearer instructions and signalisation is necessary.

Cons: I do not recall being told of the relocation fee when I reserved the car on line. I thought perhaps because I was taking the car in the "desired" direction that there wouldn't be a charge. Then when I saw the extra charge on a more itemized statement, it was too late to do anything. I also had trouble checking in by phone as instructed. I eventually had to call the Wellington office to learn that I had to get there by 17:00, and no, there was no shuttle from the ferry building as I'd thought.

Cons: Our car battery was flat. Luckily we had someone from mode car rentals available to aide in jump starting the car. We were lucky that we caught this person just before he left.

Pros: I did not like dealing with Mode rentals at all. The vehicle had a bad smell.

Cons: The service was terrible, we had agreed that they would meet us at the airport instead of transferring our group but they had obviously forgotten but did come to the airport where they were extremely aggressive shouting at us and actually threw the keys into the vehicle before skidding out of the airport carpark. No paper work or instructions.

Pros: Mode was good value for money. When I arrived at the airpoirt I was collected very quickly by a lovely girl. Drop off was also quick and was also returned to the airport very promptly.

Cons: First impressions were the girl who picked me up was very nice and friendly. When doing paperwork back at the container the other staff member didn’t acknowledge me at all didn’t look at me or say anything seemed quite rude to me and the other staff member. The car was listed as 2016-2018. It had no GPS and I would have guessed it was a 2012-2014. The car ran well, but during my rental the muffler started ratting very badly and thought it might come off.

Cons: From the phone number given to contact them when my family landed tried it nearly 10 times it didn’t ring at all. Had to call Christchurch office for them to transfer me to the Wellington office. Customer service was disgusted by them over the phone. The shuttle service - useless. Paid for the rental online ($330 plus) andwas told only had to pay $20 on pick up but ended up paying $120 instead. Also with another $300 hold. I think everything should have been clearly stated online with purchase.

Cons: The car had been cleaned on the inside but was FILTHY on the outside. This included spider webs and grimy handles. Car was old for a rental with more than 150,000 kms on the clock. No modern touches like sat nav which are important in a rental. Obviously in poor condition with bad wipers and judder in the brakes but no option as other cars not available or in any better condition at the Wellington depot. Auckland appeared to have much better/newer vehicles when we dropped the car off.

Cons: The after hours fee of $40. I had to drop the car to an off road street, then the keys to a local gas station. Yes it was just down the road from airport. I had my personal luggage for an international flight. So I parked at airport, checked in luggage, then dropped car off. I then had to pay for parking and walk back to the airport, in the rain. This is not ideal, as I had not contact with the company representative, but still had to pay $40 after hours fee?

Got the run around on getting reimbursed for AA call out & replacement of battery - NO one apart from manager would authorized refund.

Cons: The car breaks didn't sound very good and I found out that it was due for a service once I returned the car. Also I had to pay $40 for a early drop off time at 8:30am I would expect that for a drop off at 5 or 6am in the morning but not 8:30am. They also wanted me to drop the car at a petrol station and walk across the road to the airport with a baby and 4 bags. They did shuttle me but only after I questioned it. It was always hard to get hold of someone when I called the office number.

Cons: Instructions regarding dropping car off after hours in Auckland were not very clear initially but rep who delivered car to us at Wgtn Airport told us to call Auck office before drop off and they would give us details which we did and drop off went smoothly.

I was told if I had an accident Mode would use my $3000 and I would have to claim back through the insurance. This felt wrong to me. Ended up paying more for the car to reduce the hold to $100. Because of this I won't use Mode again
