Avia Rent A Car at Pula Airport

Pros: Collection point right outside the arrival gates making it easy to find.

Pros: The agent was nice and friendly.

Cons: Clean car policy is another hidden fee! 90€ per extra driver is a ripoff! I would really like to get the car I have chosen and not the one they choose. I would like a car with an apropriate trunk.

Cons: I have explained this above - the forced option of paying and additional fee for cleaning or buy a full tank of Avia petrol, part of which they inevitably get back from you

Cons: The car was not what I booked, far too big. I deliberately booked a small car, just to be given Skoda Octavia! It was dirty but they charged me 15 euros up front. I was intimidated with two agressive reps, they found damage on the car on return, intimidated me again and charged me an lot of money. Absolute cowboys.

Cons: on return their booth at the airport was empty (this was in the middle of their working day, not after hours), I called the mobile # presented there, they seemed to be quite annoyed by the fact I arrived earlier, and told me that now I have to wait for 10 mins for them to finish at the car wash and return to the airport. Not sure why it takes both of them to drive the car to the car wash while leaving booth empty.

Pros: The woman who showed us to our car was lovely.

Cons: Their clean to clean service is bad. They want the car back in a valet cleaned standard. They charge 15 Euros if you agree up front to pay for cleaning and threaten 35 Euros on return if they don’t think it’s clean enough. They said if the car had a few dead flies on the front they would charge! Luckily we had cleaning facilities at our accommodation and no flies died on the way to the airport!! I’ve never experienced this elsewhere in Europe. Charge only the people who make a complete mess.

Can we have a cost that says “this is it and you’re good to go.. £350 excess if you bash it or it gets bashed, see you in a week!”

Cons: When we arrived with the credit we had booked on we were told this was not acceptable, the only way we were able to pick up the car was to pay their excess premium and for the full tank of fuel in total 240 euros. The car hire was only 186 originally.

Plus, I know they give different pricing for the car cleaning to different customers to try get them to buy their full insurance package (as its included), UNLESS they don't mention it during the sale process.

Took over 40 minutes while there staff decided that I had damage a tyre and demanded that I pay for it rather than take it from the preauthorised CC. Very petty, they seemed to be looking for anything they could charge me for. Very different attitude to other car hire firms I’ve used in the past and I will not be using them again.

Cons: As a Canadian who has rented a lot of cars in Canada and the United States I want to point out a difference, not as negative, but to be aware of. In Canada and the US all companies I have rented from are not concerned about paint damage less than 1/2 inch or so. This was not the case with Avia car rental. The customer service representative wanted us to point out all scratches/blemishes/dents regardless of the size. Again, I only mention this point so you are aware of the difference.

Flight was slightly delayed (we gave flight number during booking) so when we picked up at 13:30 we were charged additional 'late collection' fees and told that they could have re-assigned the car to others if we'd not collected within the hour after 12. This arrangement was NOT made clear during booking. Assumption was that we could pickup any time after elected pickup time. Disappointed to have such a shock on day 1 of holiday.

Paid €80 for GPS and given an ancient Garmin system. Car had Airplay so not required.

Cons: Worst car rental at Pula airport. Expensive, not friendly at all and pushing you to take their own insurance. If you have a problem with the car nobody will help you at the agency, they will even hang up on you. Better choice to Choose official renters at the airport.

Cons: When picking up the car, the service was unhelpful. They charged us a reactivation fee. They were very strict about the car condition - we were warned that even the mycroscopic spots were not tolerated. When returning the vehicle, there was no sign of Avia parking spot. After circling around several times, we realised that THERE IS NO AVIA PARKING SPOT.

He accused us of a dent on the underside of the front passenger side. We pointed out that there were similar dents on each side of the car and in fact they were jacking points which he should have known. Was he on commission to find faults with the car to reduce our deposit?

In the event, it was all OK but sometimes a very kind vehicle upgrade is not always wanted. In absolute fairness to Avia, we didn't ask them if a smaller vehicle was available instead of the one given to us.

Cons: Car collection details from Gotcar were incorrect. They said we would be met at the gate when in fact Active rental car had an office in the airport. Gotcar gave the wrong phone number for Active car rental and when we contacted Gotcar’s emergency number, they said they could not help us. We had to get online ourselves to sort out the e details. This delayed pick up of the vehicle.

Pros: Collection was easy and the car was brand new.

Cons: We were charged extras that we were not made aware of. On drop off, the staff were too busy to speak to us.

Cons: We ended up for switching car’s several times. The Peugeot 3008 or equivalent that we ordered was not available, so we were given an Octavia. This did not have any ability to plug the satnav into. We were then provided an automatic which was a slightly smaller but nice car so ok in the end. In terms of drop off some feedback to Avia is that they need to be much clearer on down town pula drop off - the location is not clearly indicated in the paperwork, staff and no signage. It was hard work.

Pros: We experienced some difficulty trying to pick up the car due to a forgotten pin number and the sales representative was so patient with us and did everything he could to make sure we could have the car. We were very impressed and grateful for his effort.

Cons: No office at the airport, check out without written agreement

Pros: overall everything was good and the sorting out of a parking fine when i already had a ticket

Cons: difficulty in finding representative at the airport
