Pros: Thomas, our front end service provider gave us the breakdown on how to best use an electric vehicle in France. He explained the pro/cons of a smaller capacity car and the pros/cons of a larger battery capacity car.

Cons: If we wanted to rent a damaged car we could have got one far cheaper through Rent A Dent. Five people asked us about “our accident” whilst travelling and they were all shocked when we told them this was the car imposed on us. Just not good enough!!!

Cons: I booked a specific vehicle which should of been an automatic nine seater van, I was given the choice of a much smaller unsuitable car or a manual van. I ordered an automatic because I have a right shoulder injury and was aware I would be driving a left hand drive vehicle. I am from the UK which means I normally change gear with my left side.

Cons: The Europcar rep mis-sold both insurance by telling me that breakdown and road assistance was extra and she told me that the economy electric car I had booked did not have enough autonomy to go from Lyon to Annecy and that I would have not found electric charging stations on the way. Therefore, I had to pay €130 extra to what I had already paid to discovercars. The upgraded car was absolutely dirty outside.

Cons: Vi fick inte bilen vi hade bokat, den kostade väsentligt mycket mer än då vi bokade och det var fel sorts bilbarnstol. Vi fick sätta in stolen själva trots att det stod att den skulle vara monterad. Bilen var smutsig. De sa att vi inte bokat någon försäkring trotts att det stod i beställningen att vi hade det, så vi fick betala 40€ extra för en till försäkring. Plus att de på Eiropcar inte kunde någon engelska.

Rate excludes
Many highways in France are tolled using only electronic means.
An E-Toll is offered in order to avoid violation fees.
Driver requirements
Minimum rental age is 18 years.
A young driver fee applies to drivers under the age of 26.

There is no maximum age.
A Senior driver fee is not applied.

The driver license must have been issued by authorized authorities at least 1 year(s) before the date of the commencement of the rental.

A driver license printed using a non-Roman alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc) must be supplemented by an International Driving Permit.
Please note that the International Driving Permit is valid only if it is accompanied by a regular driver's license, is issued by an official authority or government-authorized organization, and is in physical (not digital) form.


Driver licenses from the following country(ies): China will be accepted only if the translation is approved by the Consulate or Embassy.
Residents of the following country(ies): France are required to present the following document(s): local driver's license in order to pick up the car.
In addition to documents mentioned previously, the customer will need the following: proof of home address (e.g. Utility bill), that is valid for at least 3 months before the pick up date.
Deposit and deductible policy

Optional extras and services
Available special equipment: GPS Navigation system, Baby seat (up to 1 year of age), Child seat (2-4 years of age), Snow chains.
Prices for extras are shown on the booking page.

Adding additional drivers is allowed.
There is an additional charge for each driver.
Underage additional drivers are subject to both Young Driver and Additional Driver fees.
When picking up the vehicle, all drivers must be present and must provide valid documentation.


Fuel policy
The vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with the same amount in order to avoid additional charges.
Electric vehicles must be returned with the same battery charge they had when picked up to avoid additional charges (on a per kWh basis). An additional admin fee will be charged if a vehicle is returned with less than 80 % battery charge remaining.
Additional information
By law, winter tires are mandatory on all roads from 01.11 to 31.03 in the following regions: Ain, Allier, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-Maritimes, Ardeche, Ariege, Aude, Aveyron, Cantal, Doubs, Drome, Haute-Garonne, Isere, Jura, Loire, Haute-Loire, Lozere, Moselle, Puy-de-Dome, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Pyrénées-Orientales, Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Rhone, Haute-Saone, Savoie, Haute-Savoie, Tarn, Var, Vaucluse, Vosges, Territoire de Belfort.
During the winter season, snow chains are mandatory on roads in mountainous areas that are marked by a road sign.
Snow chains are recommended in icy/snowy conditions, especially when traveling in mountainous areas.

The supplier will hold the vehicle for 0 minutes after your scheduled pick-up time as long as it is within their normal business hours. After this time, your booking may be canceled without refund.
