• Royal Palace Museum. Located in a stunning 17th-century palace, this is perhaps the most important art museum in Genoa. • Doge's Palace. For centuries, the Republic of Genoa was a maritime superpower, competing with the Republic of Venice and playing an important role in the European colonization of the Americas. Genoa Airport is about 7.4 km (4.6 mi) west of Genoa. SS1 is the main road connecting the airport to the city. By car, Turin and Milan can be reached in 2 hours or less, and Florence and Nice can be reached in three hours or less.
