Airport travel guide

Located in the Western part of the French Riviera, Toulon is a great hub for exploring the famous region, its beautiful coastline, and many cultural and historical landmarks. These are four of the most notable attractions in and around it:
- Beaches. There are a number of lovely city beaches in Toulon - most are either near the Mourillon neighborhood to the east of the city center or along one of the several small peninsulas that are to the south. If these public spaces get too busy for you, driving along the coast in either direction should eventually land you in a relatively more tranquil spot.
- Museums. Toulon is a port city with a history of 3,000 years, so it is only natural that its historical development is closely linked with the Mediterranean sea. Two of the best places to learn about this are the appropriately named Naval Museum and the Boat Museum. Also known as La Dives, the latter of them is focused on the relatively more recent military history. Although it’s not directly connected to the topic of the sea, another great cultural institution of Toulon is the Natural History Museum.
- Old Port. As mentioned above, Toulon was primarily a port city before its transformation into a fancy tourist resort, and the naval industries remain important to this day. The best place to experience this aspect of Toulon is by visiting the atmospheric Vieux or Old Port which is located just southeast of the aforementioned Naval Museum and where one can still see wooden boats as well as landmarks such as the Genie of the Navigation statue.
- Marseille. Loud, hectic, and rough around the edges, the second city of France splits the opinion of foreign visitors, but its historical importance and the architectural magnificence of at least some of its quarters are undeniable. If you’re tempted to have a look for yourself, the from Toulon takes only about one hour.
