Arguably the most popular destination in Bulgaria during the summer months, Varna is a Black Sea resort city but also a place of ancient habitation and well-preserved history. These are four of its most interesting attractions:

• Varna Archaeological Museum. The area around Varna has been inhabited for at least 6,500 years and has been ruled by many famous civilizations. Arguably the best place to learn more about this heritage is the city’s Archaeological Museum which boasts a mighty collection of at least 100,000 artifacts.
• Beaches. The most popular reason to visit the city is because Varna provides access to some of the loveliest beaches on the Black Sea. Many are within the city boundaries, but with a rental car, you can also easily access such popular nearby spots as Golden Sands and St. Constantine and Helena, both just north of the city, or explore the relatively more secluded and wild coastline to the south.
• Aladzha Monastery. Also technically a part of the archaeological museum, but located about a 20-minute drive northeast of the city center, Aladzha is a cave monastery that was inhabited for at least 600 years. Eventually abandoned, its caverns have now been turned into one of the most interesting attractions in the Varna area.
• Golden Sands Nature Park. This small, but scenic preserved area is named after the neighboring beach resort of the same name (known as Zlatni Pjasci in Bulgarian). The nature park is home to a surprisingly diverse flora, as well as wildlife species such as northern goshawk and red deer. The drive from Varna takes only about 25 minutes.

Terminals

Terminal 3 is the main terminal while Terminal 2 is primarily used during the summer months. They are connected by a free shuttle bus.

Location

Varna Airport is about 9 km (5.6 mi) northwest of the city center. Motorway A2/E70 and Drin Street are the main roads connecting the airport to the city.

Services and facilities

You’ll find cafeterias and snack bars, as well as shops, including duty-free outlets in T2. There are also ATMs and several currency exchanges, a children’s play area, baby changing facilities, a luggage wrapping service, a medical center for emergencies, a lost and found office, a prayer room, and an outdoor observation terrace. Nearest gas station

Петрол/Petrol gas station, located at 9023 Zapad, is on the right side of Highway E70 when going from the airport to Varna. It can be reached in about five minutes and is open 24/7. There are many other gas stations near Varna Airport and on the way to the city.
