Airport travel guide

Richmond International Airport (RIC) serves Richmond, the capital of the state of Virginia. It is located in the center of the state and is, therefore, used by many seeking to reach other parts of the state. It is also the busiest airport in the state outside of the D.C. area.
Richmond is a popular tourist destination. It is one of the oldest cities in the country and was important in colonial times. Most of the tourist attractions have to do with the Civil War, though. The city served as the capital of the Confederacy and the White House of the Confederacy can still be visited along with museums dedicated to this era of history. Many other interesting sites can be found in the region surrounding the city and a rental car is essential to visit them.

Main airlines
As the airport is not a major hub for any airline, there is no one airline that dominates in terms of the number of passengers and departures it has. American Airlines carries the most passengers but is closely followed by Delta. United and the low-cost airlines JetBlue and Southwest are also popular airlines at the airport.

These airlines flights are primarily to and from destinations in the Soth, Midwest, and Northeast. The farthest destination away is Denver. The major airlines connect in their hubs, for instance, Delta in Atlanta, so passengers can reach destinations farther away and international destinations.
Terminals
RIC has one terminal with two concourses. Concourse A is used by American Airlines and JetBlue while Concourse B is used by Allegiant, Delta, Southwest, Spirit, and United.
Location
Richmond International is located about 10 miles southeast of downtown Richmond near the interchange of I64 with I-295. It is also about 60 miles from Newport News, only an hours’ drive.

Car rental desks
All of the companies serving RIC are located at the airport. The rental desks for all of them can be found near the main entrance on the lower level. When returning your rental, follow the Rental Car Return signs. They will lead you to the parking garage where Alamo, National, Dollar, and Thrifty can be found on the lower level.
Services and facilities
Richmond International has all of the services and facilities one would expect from a midsize airport.
Travelers can find Applebees (which also offers takeout) and Caribou Coffee in the atrium. Concourse A, being the less busy concourse, has only a Caribou Coffe and a Cross Grain Brewhouse. Concourse B has a Caribou Coffee, a Sam Adams restaurant, a Cheeburger Cheeburger, and a Club Level Grill.
In addition to ATMs located throughout the terminal, there is a bank branch, too. A Visitor Information Center is also available to provide travelers with information about the region. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, too.
Nearest gas station
There are plenty of stations along Highway 60 and Sout Airport Drive when approaching the airport from either Downtown or along I-64. A BP station is located right before the turn to the airport on Highway 60. If exiting from I-64, you will pass a Wawa station on your right which is not only the most convenient but likely the cheapest station in the area.
