I travelled all over Sicily via this Ford Torneo Van (great choice as can store suitcase in boot aware from prying eyes, less touristy looking and comfortable) - it's such an insightful, fascinating island. Yes, it's absolutely crazy driving but once one gets the hang of it, it's inspiring. Biggest hints: when you go onto motorway be aware the slip road is short and you are joining the faster cars so eyes out to join the flow. Tolls: on arrival avoid Telepass (auto ticket) + head for Biblieti (hand ticket). You need to press the big red button NOT the small one! (yes it looks like an emergency button but that's right). Prepare toll money in advance. In Palermo watch out for pedestrians who just walk out, motorscooters whizz and overtakers find an extra, mystery lane! Many of the smaller towns e.g. Erice are on top of hills so lots of hairpins so take it gently to allow for this and other cars coming the other way (park up before entering Erice as impossible to drive inside tiny roads and is a ZTL. If staying, check with host + ask for residents 7 day pass, only 12E v big tourist parking ticket allows for longer periods but you will need to go to parking desk with evidence of stay + id to achieve). Don't think you always have to park in the car parks as there often is free parking on the roads (but be careful to check signage in case it's just for residents or tow away). Research ZTL's (Zone Traffic Limitation areas) before travel as you will get fined if you go into these. If you are staying inside one check with your host/parking to either get you a pass in advance or deal with on arrival. But most of all, breathe, you can do it + I wish you have an absolutely fabulous trip - all the best!

The trip and the places we visited in Sicily were great. Sicily have many nic3 and interesting places to visit.

Noto and Mt Etna were fantastic.
