Airport travel guide

Famous for its delicious wines, scenic waterfront, and well-preserved architecture, the southwestern French city of Bordeaux is a popular tourist destination. But while the city is undoubtedly full of riches, the region that surrounds it is equally interesting. Here are three great day-trip destinations near Bordeaux:
- Bergerac. Sitting on the River Dordogne, Bergerac has been designated “a town of art and history”. It is also home to the Museum of Wines of Bergerac and the Museum of Tobacco which together offer an insight into the two industries historically important to the town and region. For something healthier afterwards, why not rent a boat or kayak and go on a relaxed trip down the river? Located 120 km (75 miles) east of Bordeaux, Bergerac can be reached in about an hour and 30 minutes.
 - Arcachon. Located just a short drive from the Bay of Biscay, a visit to Bordeaux means the possibility of a beach holiday! The nearest place to enjoy the sea is the scenic resort town of Arcachon. Home to long golden beaches, as well as Europe’s largest sand dune and the L'Île aux Oiseaux (Bird Island) which is just a short boat ride away, Arcachon is the perfect place for a day out in the sun (and is nice to visit even in wintertime). Located just 65 km (40 miles) southwest of Bordeaux, Arcachon can be reached in about one hour.
 - Angouleme. A town in the neighbouring Charente department, Angouleme is one of the most interesting historic destinations in this part of the country. The town is home to a beautiful, vine-covered town hall, immense historic city walls, and one of the prettiest indoor market places in all of France. The most impressive example of Angouleme’s historic heritage is the town’s 12th-century cathedral, but the Abbey of Saint-Cybard and the Museum of Fine Arts with its sixth-century sarcophagus are also worth a visit. Located some 120 km (75 miles) northeast of Bordeaux, Angouleme can be reached in about an hour and 30 minutes.
