SafeDrive Car Rentals at Hobart Airport

Pros: Friendly staff. Vehicle an older model hence the cheaper hire rates.

Pros: The price was about 30% less than most other.

Cons: Says airport pick up and drop off but was in a completely different suburb, completely different car to order, very slow shuttle pick up, car not road worthy eg, tyre leaking, wipers need replacing, were dangerous, and keyless battery hardly worked leaving me locked out of the car at night.

Pros: All good except for a lot of panel dents which were noted.

Cons: 1. I had the clear impression Safe Drive Rentals company was based a couple of minutes from the airport in Cambridge. But was actually based in Mornington 15 minutes away towards Hobart which was in the wrong direction for us. We only learned about it this when in the car on the way to Hobart. 2. Booking through Discover Cars and selecting $0 excess did not mean I wasn't exposed to Safe Drive Rental's excess. I would have to cover any excess ($5k) and Discover would reimburse me.

Pros: They (the staff) were good, but the car was not. On few places it has damages from accident, the crouse control did not work (according to user manual it has to be taken for a service ASAP). On return, our domestic flight was at 10:55am, we arrived there just around 8am, we wre informed that we should return the car by 7:10am and wanted to charge for another day (their argument was you should read the hiring contract, even we stated at the pick up that we will drop it of between 8 and 9am).

Cons: The “stress free shuttle service” was the worst experience of customer service I’ve had. Waited an hour expecting to be picked up, he got there said there wasn’t enough seats to take my party and he’d have to come back. We decided to get a taxi and it’s in an industrial estate with no way onto a locked gate. Phoned the call centre countless times to get the same message “we’re passing on your message”. Took three hours to get the car and would have been double that if we waited to be collected.

Cons: The starter key battery was at low level when I hired the car. When later experienced difficulty starting the car I was advised to myself buy and fit a new battery. On 10 September I had a partially flat tyre. Took the car to Launceston Mitsubishi who fitted the emergency spare. They also sold me and fitted a new key battery. Called Safe for advice about repair or replacement of tyre. It took 2 hours for a call back and no offer of help. I paid for repair and battery. No refund.

Cons: i called in advance to inquire about pick up and reminded them about the car seats but only 1 was set up so we had to wait for the other one to be vacuumed and set up so there went our dinner plans that night. Also, they did not clean the very dirty windscreen before giving it to us.

When the car finally arrived, the driver left before ensuring we could exit properly. The car was dirty, with no cleaning wipes, and no alternative vehicle was offered. The sound system didn’t work, and the fuel tank wasn’t full. On drop off, no staff was at the location and so we had to call the national number as we were close to missing our flight.

Pick up and drop off was not properly organised. If you tried to reach numbers it took us 30 min to reach someone’s. at the drop off there wasn’t any workers around 7:30am at the office if it even shows they are open from 6:00 am. Not well organised lot of improvements need to be done.

Cons: We had 5 people in our party at the airport and the car we were being picked up in only allowed for 5 so my husband had to go with the employee to the depot do all the paperwork and then drive back to collect us. A van to fit all people would be ideal. Same for drop off we didn't want to be ferried in two car trips so my husband dropped us at the airport prior to returning the car just in case there wasn't a van to get us all back to the airport.
