SafeDrive Car Rentals at Hobart Airport

Cons: 1-.The car i received was not in good condition mechanically. It stopped working in the middle of nowhere and when I contacted the rental company they didn't help at all (I have proof) so I have to walked for 2hs to find a solution. 2-. The pick up process is terrible and the drop off worst. I wasn't given the transfer back to the airport that was included and had to go by myself to the airport. 3-. Every time you want to contact the rental company they take forever to reply. And more things

Pros: Value for money was good.

Cons: Communication was bad. There are many things to be said about that… for example, being dropped off by an Uber at their office which is being a closed gate and there is nothing indicating where you have to go. The gate opens with a code, but you only get it after calling them. The keys are in a lockbox but they don’t tell you that until you ask. The lockbox also had the wrong keys… we luckily found the keys in the unlocked car… most communication was on my own initiative.

Pros: Very efficient at providing prompt pick up and drop off.

Cons: There was no face to face service. I had to speak to some one the phone in Melbourne to achieve pickup and drop off.

Cons: The car was in a horrible condition - scratches and damages to the wing mirror. All tires were at 20 PSI and the tank was not filled as promised, horrible service trying to pickup the car and I couldn’t even get ahold of anyone to drop the car off - almost missing our flight in the process. Wouldn’t recommend this to anyone, better off using anyone else.

Staff wanted to drop me off without checking the car until I reminded him - if you don't do this there's a high chance they hit you with a claim and you're unable to defend it once you're heading back home.

But was actually based in Mornington 15 minutes away towards Hobart which was in the wrong direction for us. We only learned about it this when in the car on the way to Hobart. 2. Booking through Discover Cars and selecting $0 excess did not mean I wasn't exposed to Safe Drive Rental's excess. I would have to cover any excess ($5k) and Discover would reimburse me.

Pros: They (the staff) were good, but the car was not. On few places it has damages from accident, the crouse control did not work (according to user manual it has to be taken for a service ASAP). On return, our domestic flight was at 10:55am, we arrived there just around 8am, we wre informed that we should return the car by 7:10am and wanted to charge for another day (their argument was you should read the hiring contract, even we stated at the pick up that we will drop it of between 8 and 9am).

Waited an hour expecting to be picked up, he got there said there wasn’t enough seats to take my party and he’d have to come back. We decided to get a taxi and it’s in an industrial estate with no way onto a locked gate. Phoned the call centre countless times to get the same message “we’re passing on your message”. Took three hours to get the car and would have been double that if we waited to be collected.

On 10 September I had a partially flat tyre. Took the car to Launceston Mitsubishi who fitted the emergency spare. They also sold me and fitted a new key battery. Called Safe for advice about repair or replacement of tyre. It took 2 hours for a call back and no offer of help. I paid for repair and battery. No refund.

When the car finally arrived, the driver left before ensuring we could exit properly. The car was dirty, with no cleaning wipes, and no alternative vehicle was offered. The sound system didn’t work, and the fuel tank wasn’t full. On drop off, no staff was at the location and so we had to call the national number as we were close to missing our flight.

Cons: Rental company now located at airport but pickup was available with a phone call. Vehicle cabin was sprayed with a fregrance that was too overwhelming for us. Had to drive with windows partly open for a few days

Cons: We had 5 people in our party at the airport and the car we were being picked up in only allowed for 5 so my husband had to go with the employee to the depot do all the paperwork and then drive back to collect us. A van to fit all people would be ideal. Same for drop off we didn't want to be ferried in two car trips so my husband dropped us at the airport prior to returning the car just in case there wasn't a van to get us all back to the airport.

Pros: Good car. No complaints. Being outside the airport is the only drawback. Waited about 15 mins for pickup. Dropping off was fine and we got a lift back from them to the hotel which was really helpful.
