Pros: we were met at the airport told to wait for a shuttle, ended up waiting for a second shuttle so we lost about an hour in the heat, waiting to get to the office. Then there was only one agent and he was having a dispute booking someone’s car and we waited at least half an hour before we were helped. Then after spending 400 on the rental we had to spend another 900 Canadian liability insurance… Way over and beyond what we were expecting, and we couldn’t do it prior from our end in Canada

Cons: The car was brand new Chinese SUV, did not have a manual with it and we had to figure out how to use it. Trial and error. Actually got stuck on a loose gravel road and had to get pulled out by a friend. It ended up being a front wheel drive not an all-wheel-drive, which is really useful in Costa Rica. It would’ve been useful if they told you how to use some of the features before they send you off.

Pros: Great customer care, our SVU engine light came on during our trip uo Santa Teressa , no power. I contacted Routes the next morning and a replacement SUV got deliverd the same day.

Cons: Hard to spot the shuttle at the airport.

Cons: It was very difficult to get someone to pick us up from the airport. No one would answer the phone, and that was the only way provided to communicate.

Pros: Routes were fairly good at retrieving us from the airport and having our car ready for us when we got there. They then handed us an additional bill, increasing the cost of our rental by 50%

Cons: Our real beef is with Discover Cars. We had thought we had paid the full fee for our rental, only to get off a plane after 7 hours and be handed another hefty invoice. Discover Cars mis-represents what you get for their fees. We were led to believe the fee was all inclusive. We will go direct to the rental agent in the future.

Rate includes
Free cancellation with a full refund up to 48 hours before your pick-up time, Unlimited mileage, Collision Damage Waiver (deductible: ~€ 780.00 - € 1385.00), Theft Protection, Third Party Liability (TPL), Airport surcharge, Free modifications, State Tax.
Driver requirements
Minimum rental age is 21 years.
A young driver fee applies to drivers under the age of 25.

Maximum rental age is 70 years.
A Senior driver fee is not applied.

The driver license must have been issued by authorized authorities at least 1 year(s) before the date of the commencement of the rental.

In addition to the regular driver license, an International Driving Permit is also mandatory if the national driver license is not written in English.
Please note that the International Driving Permit is valid only if it is accompanied by a regular driver's license, is issued by an official authority or government-authorized organization, and is in physical (not digital) form.

In order to pick up the car, the following documents are required: passport, valid driver license, credit card on a main drivers name, booking voucher.
Deposit and deductible policy


Payment policy
The main driver must provide a physical payment card in their name with enough funds to cover the deposit to pick up the car. The rental company will neither accept virtual credit cards (e.g., GooglePay or ApplePay) nor someone else’s card (including family members).

The following credit cards issued on the main driver's name are accepted: MasterCard, Visa, American Express. Any other cards or cash payments are not accepted.
Optional extras and services
Available special equipment: GPS Navigation system, Child seat (2-4 years of age), Booster seat (4-10 years of age).

All extras are available at the rental counter. Prices vary, depending on the rental period.
Booked extras are not guaranteed. All extras are subject to availability at the rental counter.

Fuel policy
The vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with the same amount in order to avoid additional charges.
Business hours
Service outside of business hours is available by request and for an additional charge.
Period of time, during regular working hours, when the car is still guaranteed for the customer, if the customer is late for pick up (the grace period) is 60 minutes.
