Where can you rent a car in Trapani?
The two main places for picking up a rental car in Trapani are the city’s international airport and the city’s ferry port. The former is a 20-minute drive south of the city while the latter is very centrally located and near a number of local attractions and popular hotels.
Can you drive from Trapani to Palermo?
Yes, absolutely – it is perhaps the most popular trip in the northern part of Sicily. Palermo is some 110 km (68 miles) to the east, a trip that takes about 90 minutes. You can either go to explore Palermo and then return to Trapani or choose one of the car rental companies that allows one-way rentals.
Can you drive from Trapani to Lo Zingaro nature reserve?
Yes, it’s also possible — and highly recommended, as Lo Zingaro is perhaps the most beautiful protected area in the Trapani region. You cannot drive inside the reserve itself, but the southern entrance, located about a 50-minute drive northeast of Trapani, has a parking lot, and you can proceed on foot from there.
What is driving in Trapani like?
The Sicilian driving culture is something that foreign visitors love to refer to, but while it can at times feel a bit hectic, the overall experience is usually not as bad as it’s sometimes made out to be. Thousands of tourists drive in Sicily every year, and most do so without any particular difficulty or accident. The trip was fun, very educational as well, there's loads to see and do. I was quite disappointed with the amount of trash along the roads or in the cities. I would expect such a display of waste (bathtubs, electronics, plastic... you name it) in much poorer countries, not in Sicily.
