A private and calm way to get to my hotel with a tired child. A feeling of freedom which I've never experienced on holiday before. Travelled to the old town and visited Hadrian's Gate and the marina. Was able to visit supermarkets and get foods for my child with multiple allergies. Had a wonderful day at the Land of Lions and was able to arrive and leave when we wished rather than an all-day trip, meaning we were able to fit more fun into our week! Also did some arranged tours and definitely felt I'd have preferred to have driven to them myself.
It meant a longer lie-in on our return journey, will definitely hire a car again from Hit and plan to return to this destination in future.

My family visited Kalkan. The views were great but there are a lot of extremely steep hills. Not an issue as we had a car but going for walks can be difficult unless you are very fit.
Patara beach was really nice to go and watch the Sunset and the water is shallow for quite a way out so great for children.
We also went to a waterpark in Fethiye called Orka which was great fun for the adults, teens and babies. The weather was great, around 30 - 35 centigrade most days. We did as a family find it expensive in Kalkan and the airport prices for food and drink when flying home were extortionate.
All being said the villa was lovely with an infity pool and we had a good 2 weeks there.

Driving up to the natural gorges and being able to walk , climb the pathways through was good experiences. A day trip to Kas, easy drive and lots of parking.
Kaskan was trickier with narrow streets, ad-hoc parking and steep hills, but all ok 😊

The windy car office is situated outside the terminal so you have to be driven to the office before picking up the car which means if you have lots of luggage, you will have to swap it from a car to another one .
It would be good if the fuel tank is full by windycar so you’re not wasting time at the start looking for petrol. And it’s easier to fill it Ip at the return.
Windycar never had a number for recovery, I was asked to get in touch with a windy car agent in case of a breakdown.
Not sure if anyone would answer at 4.00am

Having our own car have up a lot more freedom and allowed us to do more. Having a 3 year old I would not have taken public transport and taxi was extremely expensive so we would have explored as much.
We went up to the mountains which was over a hour away. We also went to Land of Legends and visited old town. There was a nice water fall and shopping places we went to.

We really enjoyed Cappadocia. We went to open-air museums, hiked in the valleys around Göreme and in Ihlara Valley. To visit Cappadocia as independent traveller you do need a car, so it is either taxis or rental cars.

Renting a car was the best decision I made in Turkey. It was cheaper than using taxis considering how much we travelled using the car.
We went to visit the ruins, waterfalls and few famous tourist spots during our stay.

Driving in Ankara and surrounding areas you need to be prepared for very bumpy roads, very baron areas, long distances where there are no fuel stations etc.
Driving in Ankara and surrounding towns be very prepared for VERY STEEP HILLS, some you will not even be able to drive up due to ratio of steep.
I will be honest and i have been driving for 30+ years,, driving in and around Ankara is madness you need to be 100% alert and have patience as you will be beeped at for no reason, there is no respect from other drivers, just beep your horn and go is their motto, they drive through red lights day and night, im a very confident driver and i was near killed must be 20+ times in 10days!!!
Think seriously if driving around Turkey, also always have someone with you, never drive alone especially at night time or if out driving through small villages/baron areas. Be careful and do not take unnecessary risks. Always taken food, drink,etc with you as buying it at fuel stations is expensive and they do not speak english aeay from tourist areas.
