Located in the centre of Turkey’s long Mediterranean coastline, the city of Antalya is famous as a beach holiday destination. Every summer, airlines arrive at the airport from more than 100 destinations in the United Kingdom, the rest of Europe, and the Middle East, bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors. While most tourists head straight to the beach, Antalya is also a place with a rich history and is surrounded by interesting nature which can be easily explored if you hire a car. Here are three of its best underrated attractions:

• Hadrian’s Gate. Born in the 1st century in what is now southern Spain, the Roman emperor Hadrian is best known for the famous Hadrian’s Wall in northern England. But his exploits also took him to the eastern parts of the empire where the splendid Hadrian’s Gate was built in his honour. Surviving to this day, the 8 meter (26 feet) high, ornate arch formed the entryway into the once-walled ancient city and remains one of its main attractions to this day.
• Antalya Museum. Hadrian’s Gate is located inside the Kaleiçi, or Old Town, district of Antalya which has a number of other historic buildings from the city’s ancient past that have survived. The best place to visit to get a comprehensive insight into the history of Antalya (and the surrounding region of Pamphylia), though, is the Antalya Museum. Considered one of the best in Turkey, it tells the story of Antalya through artefacts and artworks of the Hellenistic, Roman, Ottoman, and other eras.
• Köprülü Canyon. A large canyon and a national park of the same name, Köprülü is one of the best places to experience the nature of Pamphylia. Made up of scenic forests, dramatic waterfalls, and home to many species of fauna and flora, Köprülü’s hiking paths are a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy beach resorts. Located about 90 km (56 miles) northeast of Antalya, the national park can be reached in about 1 hour and 30 minutes and can thus be visited as a day trip from the city.

Terminals

The three passenger terminals are T1, T2, and Domestic Terminal. T1 and Domestic are connected, and you can walk from one to the other. Shuttle Bus 600 runs between T1 and T2.

Location

The airport is about 13 km (8 miles) from downtown Antalya. Motorway D400, Aspendos Blvd., and Ali Cetinkaya Blvd. are the main roads connecting Antalya Airport to the city.

Services and facilities

You’ll find a number of snack bars, cafeterias, and fast food restaurants, as well as several shops, including duty-free outlets, in all terminals. There are also ATMs, three lounges, baby changing facilities, a children’s playground, a health clinic, two pharmacies, and prayer rooms. Luggage lockers can be found both in Terminal 1 and in the arrivals hall of Domestic Terminal. Many of the facilities are equipped for travelers with reduced mobility.

Nearest petrol station

Petrol Ofisi, located at Yenigöl Mah, Serik Cd. D:No: 68, can be reached in less than five minutes and is open 24/7. There are many other petrol stations near Antalya Airport and on the way to the city.
