Goldcar at Gran Canaria Airport

Pros: We got an upgraded car as no cars the size we booked were available. Car was clean and nearly new. Drop off was simple and fast.

Cons: We arrived for car at 11.45am and due to being 15 mins before the estimated collection time the only way the agent would give us a car was if we paid for an upgrade which was 10€ a day!! We waited the 15mins to join queue and then had to wait another nearly 30mins to collect our car. The only good thing was we got the upgrade for free and obviously because he did not have our size of car from the start.

Pros: Very slick operation overall. Friendly agents despite the long queues. Easy drop off.

Cons: Terrible experience when picking up the car. Nearly 2 hours to get to the front of the queue. Apparently staff had not turned up to work. Key Drop machine wasn't working so fast track people were getting priority (rightly so) but this also slowed down the process. Surely a lot of the information gathering could be done online and the pick up could be a lot quicker. For this reason I will not be hiring from an Airport office again as this also happened last year with Topcar.

Pros: Speedy drop off

Cons: We queued for half an hour to then be told that our reserved car wasn’t ready and we would need to pay to upgrade. When we refused we had to join the queue again - another 20 minutes. Then miraculously 3 cars became available. The counter guy couldn’t even make eye contact with us after all his lies, but still continued to try and pressure us into another insurance policy. There were also several dents and scratches on the car that weren’t marked on the paperwork

Pros: Prices are competitive

Cons: Service speed. We waited more than 1 hour to be served. We were then told no manual cars were available, so I accepted an automatic reluctantly. The pick up point was very dark and we could not check the car properly. Subsequently on return a very tiny surface scratch was discovered for which we have had to pay a ridiculous amount, even though the scratch would easily polish out. We have no hesitation in using discover cars but would definitely review our use of Goldcar in future.

Pros: Car type as booked although very scratched.

Cons: Key battery was low, told it would be ok but ran out half way through the rental and I had to replace myself

Pros: Everything was as I booked it. I had no issues at all and was great value. The queue is also shorter than other hire companies. Check in process is much faster.

Pros: Clean car easy check out

Cons: Had to take out extra insurance even though I paid for full insurance through my booking with discover cars

Pros: Rental desk at the airport, car park pretty close as well. Very good overall value for money.

Cons: Sometimes cue to rental desk is pretty long and customers need to wait longer then it should be. Maybe third desk for most busy hours would be an option? Also it'd be nice if there was a person at car park everytime to check car with customer at the beginning and after car is brought back. If you request someone to check car with you they do it but it is usually another 10-15 minutes waiting for someone to come.

Pros: Easy drop off process and good value.

Cons: Took over an hour to get keys from rental desk as only 1 representative working. Given keys for a car that was not in the car park, had to return to desk to get another car which added more time.

Pros: Efficient helpful staff at collection counter and drop off area.

Cons: Being my first experience of Gran Canaria, car return was tricky with poor signage and directions to correct car return area.

Cons: Arrived at booking desk about 30 minutes early and the representative said I would need to wait until exact time on booking form! Also waited in queue for 30 minutes to hand back keys when all that was needed was a 'quick drop' box.

Pros: The assistant was very efficient but on her own .

Cons: The long wait collecting the car was un-acceptable over 3 hours actually , then the walk was too far to me and finding the car in the dark was not a good experience

Pros: The prices were very attractive and therefore a lot of people queueing.. but the online check in was a great idea and saved time.

Cons: I noticed there was a 'grab a key' option for quick check in .. would have been useful to have been offered this if available.

Cons: GOLDCAR Gran Canaria doesnt have a proper check in and check out inspection. I am %100 sure did nothing on car but They charged me 110€ for a seemless scrach on the bumper. My friend rented a car as well with full of scratches that was not mentioned on check out paper but charged nothing. It is like a lottery.

Pros: Customer service was excellent especially Andrea when we arrived. We had a delayed journey and she brightened up our long journey

Pros: Deposit was a crazy amount. They was also an additional deposit for fuel. The vehicle that they advise on website is never available in GC only at other locations.

Cons: Could never get a nissan juke in GC as none at that site so slightly misleading. Just be honest. The deposit is a crazy amount and then to take nearly a week to return it is just nuts.

Pros: The car was very reasonably priced and was a better car than the one I booked

Cons: Unsure if the insurance issue is theirs or yours but I think a lot of people would feel pressured to buy extra insurance even if they’d already taken it out with you

Cons: When I booked with booking.com I bought car insurance with them , then when we got to the desk I had to pay for insurance again to ensure I was covered.. I thought this was a bit of a scam

Pros: Didn't enjoy the experience. The sales knew exactly what she was doing, extremely efficient in the scam to extract more money.

Cons: Being scammed in more than doubled and being told if we cancelled we would loose the money we hadn't paid yet and they would use my debit card even without my authorisation.

Cons: The unclear rule about paying for fuel up front. Rental cars used to include a tank of fuel as part of the rental package.

Pros: They took £671.00 for the hire of the Cleo including the deposit I received £117.00 back only used the car to get to and from the airport and on checking they tied selling me more insurance saying I didn’t have enough cover I paid for insurance when I booked never use them again And wouldn’t recommend them

Cons: the car was very basic and there was no windscreen wash fluid at all making the initial drive from the airport (in dusty and rainy conditions) quite dangerous

Pros: asked about extra insurance, which i didn't need, but didn't hassle me about it.

Cons: took a while to get served despite having already checked in. seemed pointless checking in.

Cons: The car itself vibrates when steering at speed, the near side of the vehicle was damaged and scuffed considerably.
