Drove to Revelstoke in BC. Stay a good way back of vehicle as they can fling rocks from the back tires and chip the windshield. Also if you are not familiar with the TransCanada 1 highway be aware that it is very winding and curving and narrow in spots, and passed Lake Louise it is mostly a 2 lane highway with may oncoming transport trucks. Do not attempt to drive it at night, the roadway is not lined, only rumble strips.

Calgary is a mostly modern city with many high rise blocks, though the city centre also has some buildings from the early 20th century. Driving in Calgary is much easier than we thought it would be. Roads are laid out in a grid system and the traffic seemed relatively light for a big city. There's an excellent Heritage Park a few miles out of town with a steam train and river boat - a great day out!

Good experience other than winter tires option not available. Has weather been worse I would had to rent from a different agency to get winter tires as we were driving through Rogers Pass to Revelstoke.

Once it has snowed there will be pebbles on the road. Everywhere. Your windshield will take a beating. Even if (especially if?) a Chinook has melted and dried the snow on the roads. watch out for people changing lanes or wandering onto a shoulder on faster roads - especially Deerfoot. Your role? Stay in the lanes! when passing don't zoom quickly back in front of the car you just passed. If you do, the person you pass will surely notice your rental plate and 'refer' to you as another &^$(!! tourist.
