Cael in Lisbon (Downtown)

Cons: It was not easy to return the car at the airport. Airport traffic was congested on the day of return. Cael should place their return addresses as a favourite on the GPS. Not easy to locate on the GPS search. We had prepaid insurance through Discovery and Cael tried to add extra insurance. Required that I put a hefty deposit hold on the vehicle rented.

Pros: Car ready in time, clean, ¾ tank full, agent prompt

Cons: Printed Directions for dropoff in Porto airport were really only for pedestrians. Had to Google search a map to get there accurately.

Cons: Hidden fees and charges, difficult to resolve mechanical problem / vehicle exchange, and difficult getting compensation for 2 days with malfunctioning vehicle

Cons: I picked up the car and made a full coverage insurance a one of the air conditioning shutters was broke they charged me for that one hundred euro!!! They promised to show me the recieving receipt but they didn’t. So for sure I ever and never won't recommend Cael

Pros: The CAEL representative during the car pick up was quick and efficient with the process. He didn’t try to sell me any products or buy more insurance. We examined the car together. He should us how to use the car. There was only one couple in front of us when we came to check in. It was easy to find this location in Lisbon.

Cons: When they explain how much the services cost ,for instance full coverage insurance, they write it down on a blank paper. It would be nice for them to print out and show you official printed out numbers. Then you can compare what simple versus full coverage looks like.

Pros: Everything about renting in Portugal went very smoothly. From finding the location and dropping off near airport. Everything about Carl was professional. We never heard of this company before and was a little hesitant but not anymore. The company was wonderful and accommodating. We booked through discover cars and everything was perfect.

Pros: Everything was ok with CAEL except the CDW problem that was extremely unpleasant for us.

Pros: When we called to find the office to pick up the car, they answered us and tried to help us find the place. For some reason the GPS did not bring us in front of the office in Lisbon centre.

Cons: They have a policy where you drop the car with your fuel filled as it was (for us it was halfway filled). We came back with more fuel than the beginning, I asked if I can get reimbursed, they didn’t want to which I found unfair when they seem eager to lock in 2000 euros on your credit card in case of repair needed (I didn’t know it until I got to the office) and charge you for all the tolls. This left me feeling they didn’t care about the customer and themselves only.

Pros: Excellent English, very clear information. Very helpful retrieving items left in car.

Pros: Agents were extremely efficient and helpful. They explained everything and made sure I felt comfortable with the vehicle.

Cons: Surprise $30 cost for border crossing in Spain which was in the fine-print. Took forever to get the car as process is very manual and slow.

Pros: The lady during check in was lovely and very helpful. She provided all the information needed. The car is new, few mileage and in good condition.

Cons: No one was answering the phones so we had to send emails. The man wanted to retire before 7PM as we returned the car. We tried to call but no one answered and we sent emails. The guy tried to gaslight us and asked: "you should have called" - we showed proof of calls and emails; unsatisfied, he said: "are you sure you're supposed to drop the car here", we said yes. In the end he had to take the care before closing even if it was paid until the next day. This man was rude.

Pros: Friendly, easy and helpful. It did take awhile to get the car, thankfully we arrived before a line formed behind us of antsy people grumpy about how long it was taking us. The agent seemed to do everything as quickly as he could though.
