Menorca is a long-time favourite for thousands of British tourists, a fact that is reflected in tens of flights connecting the island to the United Kingdom every week. These are three of Menorca’s most interesting attractions:

• Maó. Known as Maó in Catalan and Mahon in Spanish, it is the main settlement and beating heart of Menorca. Home to the impressive Maó Port, one of the largest natural harbours in the world, the town is also known for its scenic architecture, many restaurants, and landmarks like La Mola Fortress. Located on the eastern coast of Menorca, Maó can serve as a base for exploring the rest of the island.
• Ciutadella. The other notable town of Menorca, Ciutadella is located on the island’s western coast and is about a 45-minute drive from Maó. Founded by the Carthaginian civilization more than 2,000 years ago, Ciutadella is best known for its impressive Gothic cathedral, slightly newer 17th-century Italian architecture (uncharacteristic of Spain) and the lively fish and meat market that takes place in Ciutadella’s Freedom Square.
• Beaches. Although home to interesting history, architecture, and culture, the main draw of Menorca is undoubtedly its coastline. With 215 km (133 miles) of it, there’s plenty to choose from, and hiring a car gives you the opportunity to explore the most interesting beaches of Menorca outside of the main tourist resorts. These include most of the island’s northern coast, as well as spots like Cala en Porter and Punta Prima.

Menorca Airport is about 4.5 km (2.8 mi) southwest of Mahon, the capital of and largest city on the island of Menorca. Motorways M-14 and M-12 and Carrer de Vassallo are the main roads connecting the airport to the city. All destinations on the island of Menorca can be reached within an hour from the airport.

Galp petrol station at Av. des Cap de Cavalleria, 07714, can be reached in about five minutes and is open 24/7. Although a couple of petrol stations are even closer to the airport, travelers give this Galp station the highest rating.
