I went for the New Year celebrations with my Wife and Daughter. The experience of the amazing celebrations was incredible and breathtaking. We stayed for a further 7 days and discovered Madeira again. We visit the Island every couple of years, but always in the summer. This was our first visit for New Year and we luckily came prepared for the incredible variations of weather at this time of year. Truly amazing trip, revisting all the fabulous restaurants, viewpoints and discovering the museums.

Having the car for the island made it much easier to explore at our own pace and without too many people on a large tour. We loved Porto Moniz natural swimming pools and also Monte. Some beautiful restaurants down Santa Maria street in Funchal.

Traveled most of the Island and really enjoyed having an automatic gearbox. Great views along the coast roads. We loved the sea food at all the restaurants we used. Weather could have been better but it didn't spoil our trip.

Madeira is a breathtaking island with stunning scenery, well worth a visit. The road infrastructure is very impressive but there are some very windy, steep roads so you need to be a confident driver and I recommend hiring a powerful car.
