An American car hire company founded in Michigan and now based in New Jersey, Avis has long expanded outside the borders of the United States and provides cars in more than 160 countries (or over three-fourths of all the nations in the world). The company was founded in 1946 and has since expanded its scope by having several regional headquarters in some of the largest car hire markets on the planet.
Avis is part of the Avis Budget Group, which is the third-largest car hire company in the largest car hire market, the United States, behind Enterprise (which owns Alamo and National) and Hertz (which also owns Thrifty and Dollar).
As one of the largest, and most well-known car hire brands, it’s no surprise that the company is highly rated by our customers in many locations. It has won our 2024 Excellent Car Rental Service Award in many locations, including at Toronto Airport in Canada, Edinburgh Ariprot in the UK, Marrakech Airport and Tanger Airport in Morocco, and both of Tenerife’s airports (Reina Sofia and Los Rodeos) in the Canary Islands of Spain.
