Car Rental at Djerba Airport

Airport travel guide

Djerba, often referred to as the "Island of Dreams," is a picturesque island off the coast of Tunisia in North Africa. Known for its stunning Mediterranean beaches, historic sites such as the Ghriba Synagogue, and a unique blend of cultures influenced by Berber, Arab and Jewish traditions, Djerba is a charming and culturally rich destination that attracts visitors seeking relaxation and exploration. These are the some of the most interesting attractions on Djerba:

• Guellala Museum. The Guellala Museum is a cultural jewel located on the island of Djerba in Tunisia. Known for its impressive collection of Berber artifacts and pottery, it offers visitors a fascinating insight into the island's rich heritage and traditional craftsmanship.
• Houmt Souk. The capital and administrative center of the island, this charming coastal town is known for its bustling markets, vibrant street life, and a picturesque medina (old town) with whitewashed buildings and blue accents, making it a delightful place to explore and experience the local culture and cuisine.
• Beaches. Djerba is famous for its stunning beaches, some of the most popular being Plage Sidi Maharès and Plage de la Seguia. These beaches boast fine golden sands, calm and warm Mediterranean waters and a range of water sports activities, making them ideal for sunbathers, swimmers and outdoor enthusiasts seeking relaxation and adventure.
• Star Wars filming locations. The main reason to visit Djerba for a number of Western visitors is several locations across the island that featured in the 1977 George Lucas interstellar classic Star Wars: A New Hope and have since been turned into tourist attractions. These include the Mos Eisley Cantina, the fictional ancestral home of Luke Skywalker, and Obi-Wan’s hut.
• Douz. Although not particularly close to Djerba – getting here takes over three hours by car – Douz is worth knowing if you’re in this corner of the country as it serves as a gateway to the Tunisian Sahara. A historical palm oasis, it is home to the Museum of the Desert, and there are also tour operators offering camel or car trips inside the Sahara (it’s strongly advised to go with a reputable company and its driver rather than driving into the desert yourself). Douz is also just southwest of the Chott el Djerid salt lake that almost completely dries up every summer, leading to the surreal sight of boats lined up in the sand.
