Dating back all the way to Ancient Carthage, Monastir is one of the oldest cities in Tunisia. • The Ribat. A symbol of the city, this ancient monastery and fortress is a fascinating place to visit. • Mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba. The Mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba is a grand memorial dedicated to the country's first president and founding father, Habib Bourguiba. This imposing structure houses Bourguiba's tomb and serves as a symbol of Tunisia's modern history, offering visitors a glimpse into the legacy of a prominent figure who played a pivotal role in the nation's journey toward independence and self-governance.
• Sousse. Monastir is a lovely place to visit, but getting a rental car means you have the freedom to also explore its surroundings. One of the most popular day trip destinations from Monastir, the city of Sousse is just a 30-minute drive to the northwest. Location

Monastir Airport is about 7 km (4.3 mi) west of downtown Monastir and about 15 km (9 mi) east of Sousse. Motorway C100e is the main road connecting the airport to the city.
