Pros: We dropped the car at the port and went on a boat to Pico where we noticed we forgot a child belt in the car. I called IlhaVerde call center and the lady was the nicest. She arranged the transfer of the belt on the next boat to Pico and we received it just an hour after we noticed it missing. I am delighted how the ladies made everything go smooth and stress free. What an amazing experience!

Pros: Poor service by the rental agent. Even though I got the confirmation that the tank was full, perfect conditions of car at return, I noticed a small charge on my credit card. The rental agent wasn’t able to explain why. So it will be up to be to investigate. Totally unprofessional! I’ll avoid Ilha Verde in the future.

Pros: Ease of finding the rental office in the airport terminal

Cons: Upon returning the car at the end of our vacation, which lasted nearly three weeks, we were informed for the first time that we would be responsible for the cost of the flat tire, as well as the tire on the other side of the vehicle, which was in good condition. When we requested to speak with a manager, none was available. As frequent renters who utilize car rental services two to three times a year, we have never encountered such poor customer service and feel we were taken advantage of.

Pros: Nothing: When picking up the car, my credit card was not working. The employee in a rather cloying tone kept saying that she could not solve the problem because it was my card that was not working. I had to call my bank, which suggested manually entering the card number (which I thought the clerk should have done without the suggestion). At that point, the transaction went through. I point out that my card worked for all transactions before and after that, as did my partner's card.

Cons: Moreover, the car's air-conditioning was not working. I only realised this when we were far from the rental and the employee answered the phone in an annoyed manner, telling me to go back to the airport to see if there were any other cars available. Very bad experience.

Pros: At the car pick up, the airport office of ILHA Verde was closed , I had to call them and wait 1 hour. When I returned the car, the office was closed, I was obliged to drop documents and key on the counter of their closed office

Cons: They charged twice my credit card but they told me my credit card did not work. I had to call them to sort out the issue. The car was not very clean, it was old with several little issues

Cons: The service was great, but our car would barely start and was in a bit of poor condition. Every time I started the car, I would hold my breath and *hope* that it would start. Also, within 1km of picking up the car, the gas gauge dropped by 1/8. It was not actually full, but just full enough to read full on the gauge.

Driver requirements
Minimum rental age is 19 years.
A Young driver fee is not applied.

There is no maximum age.
A Senior driver fee is not applied.

The driver license must have been issued by authorized authorities at least 1 year(s) before the date of the commencement of the rental.

In addition to the regular driver license, an International Driving Permit is also mandatory if the customer is not a resident of the following country(ies): Canada, United Kingdom, USA, EU.
For driver licenses from countries not party to the International Driving Permit treaty, an official translation of the license must be presented with the original license.
For driver licenses from countries not party to the Geneva / Vienna Convention on Road Traffic (e.g., China), an official translation of the license in the following language(s): English, together with the original license, must be presented.

In order to pick up the car, the following documents are required: passport, valid driver license, credit or debit card on a main driver's name, booking voucher.
Deposit and deductible policy


A separate fuel deposit is required when collecting the vehicle.
Payment policy
At time of pick up, customers will be required to pay the amount of the rental and a deposit.
It is possible to pay and leave the deposit only with the following payment methods: Diners, Prepaid cards, Visa Debit Card, MasterCard credit card, VISA credit card, American Express credit card, MasterCard debit card, American Express Debit card.
All credit cards must be capable of the following: Embossed; cards without this capability will not be accepted.

The following payment methods are not accepted for payment: Maestro.

The main driver must provide a physical payment card in their name with enough funds to cover the deposit to pick up the car. The rental company will neither accept virtual credit cards (e.g., GooglePay or ApplePay) nor someone else’s card (including family members).
Cross-border policy
Moving the car from one island to another is allowed.
One-way rentals are not possible between islands.
Optional extras and services
Available special equipment: Baby seat (up to 1 year of age), Booster seat (4-10 years of age), Delivery fee.
Prices for extras are shown on the booking page.

Adding additional drivers is allowed.
There is an additional charge for each driver.
When picking up the vehicle, all drivers must be present and must provide valid documentation.

It is allowed to add up to 2 additional drivers.
Delivery/Collection service is available within city limits. Additional charges will be applied, depending on the distance.
Fuel policy
The vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with the same amount in order to avoid additional charges.
A deposit for a tank of fuel is required upon pick up.
Business hours
Period of time, during regular working hours, when the car is still guaranteed for the customer, if the customer is late for pick up (the grace period) is 59 minutes.
Service outside of business hours is available by request and for an additional charge.
