Airport travel guide

Many destinations get called ‘unique’, but there are few as deserving of the characterization as Norway. At least when it comes to Europe, no place can really match the country’s wild scenery of mountains, fjords, and coastline. A great example of this is Helgeland, a wide Western region bordering the Arctic circle. These are four of its best attractions:
- Vega. Made up of 6,500 islands, but with a population of only 1,200, the Vega Archipelago is as remote as they come. Most of the islands are very small and not accessible, but there’s still plenty of nature and scenery to explore. The area is especially known for its variety of birdlife. The drive from Bronnoysund Airport takes only about 90 minutes, including the necessary ferry ride (ask your rental car supplier in advance if they permit it).
- Torghatten. The pride of the Bronnoy Municipality, Torghatten is a granite mountain that’s known for the natural tunnel going through it. Featuring in the local folklore — allegedly created by a troll king — the tunnel has now been turned into a walking path accessible to visitors. A car trip from the airport to Torghatten takes only about 20 minutes.
- Lomsdal–Visten National Park. Large, very scenic, and very wild, Lomsdal-Visten is one of the main attractions of Helgeland. Getting there takes some planning — one route is to drive from Bronnoysund Airport to Forvik from where you can take a ferry to Visthus or (though book tickets in advance and also ask your rental car supplier if they permit it). From there, it’s a several more hours drive to the park. Do your research in advance — also regarding getting around the park and accommodation — but do not be discouraged as the destination really merits the effort.
- Vefsna Regional Park. Vefsna is another stunning nature area that takes some planning to get around, but can be extremely rewarding for those who do so. Characterized not only by the mighty river that gives the park its name, as well as mountains and waterfalls, but also a well-preserved historical wooden architecture in the town of Mosjøen, the park is a piece of wilderness that’s only a two hour drive northeast of the Bronnoysund Airport.
