Airport travel guide

Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is the second-busiest airport in Colorado after Denver International Airport. It serves the city of Colorado Springs as well as the rest of southern Colorado.
With many sites to see in the southern part of the state, including Pikes Peak, the town of Durango, and Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado Springs can serve as the perfect entry point for a summer vacation. It is a much smaller airport than Denver International and much easier to get in and out of. So if planning a trip to southern Colorado, you should certainly consider flying into Colorado Springs rather than Denver. Also, don’t miss the amazing Garden of the Gods nature park located just outside the city. It is one of the best day trips from Colorado Springs.
Though most of the state’s ski resorts are more conveniently reached from Denver, two are within decent driving distance of Colorado Springs. Those are Ski Coop and Monarch Mountain, both located west of the city.
Main airlines
American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Sun Country, Southwest, and United Airlines are the only carriers that serve the airport.
Terminals
COS only has one terminal. Though that terminal has two concourses, only one has ever been used commercially. There are 12 gates that are in use.
Location
The airport is located roughly 10 miles southeast of downtown Colorado Springs. The drive usually takes about 20 minutes.
Most popular types of rental car
- Small cars - from €82 per day
- Medium cars - from €82 per day
- Large cars - from €82 per day
- SUVs - from €83 per day
- Premium cars - from €91 per day
Car rental desks
All of the car rental agencies have desks located in the baggage claim area.
Services and facilities
Though the second-busiest airport in the state of Colorado, Colorado Springs Airport is not large. It, however, has all of the services and facilities one would expect of an airport.
There is one lounge, the Premier Lounge. It is a membership-based lounge but is also available to most airline program members.
There is a Visitor Information Center in the baggage claim area with friendly volunteers that provide information about both the airport and the Colorado Springs Area.
There is a cluster of hotels just outside the airport. Most of these provide a free shuttle service to and from the airport. This is useful for an early morning flight as you could return your rental car the night before and use the shuttle to get to and from the airport.
There is a taproom of the local Bristol Brewing Company landslide in addition to Coffee Shop at Bristol and a marketplace. The rest of the restaurants are located airside. These include the fast-food options of Pizza Hut Express. There is also a full-service restaurant. With just one concourse, all travelers have access to every food and retail outlet at the airport.
Nearest gas station
If coming from either direction on I-25, the nearest gas station on the way to the airport is a Loaf ‘N Jug on Drennan Road which is right off the parkway leading to the airport. If instead, you are traveling south along CO-21 to reach the airport, there is a Conoco station just before you reach Astrozon Blvd.
