Routes Car Rental at Ottawa Airport

Pros: The car was acceptable. I wish car had a C connection.

Cons: See above. I brought the car back one day early. I did not get any money back.

Cons: We waited over an hour to pick up the vehicle. There was a line of people waiting to pick up a vehicle, but only 2 agents.

Pros: Good price and good service. You need to read the terms and understand what you are getting and it’s great value for money. I paid 1/4 the price of the big brands but had mileage limit (I didn’t need unlimited).

Cons: Other customers picking up cars, being rude to staff and lying about having insurance coverage on their personal policy or on their credit card. It is frustrating to see how some people act in public. Read the terms, come prepared with proof of insurance on your credit card or a letter showing proof.

Cons: Trying to find the location to drop the vehicle off. I'm not familiar with the Ottawa area, so drop off was a little tricky. Gps didn't take me directly there.

Cons: The charges when you have to go to Gatineau, QC. I went there one day and I was charged for 4 days. Really Unfair. They explained that it was their system but something needs to change because it is like stealing our money.

Cons: Original communication was a little confusing as the time booked for pick up and the actual time requested varied substantially. This turned out to be a non issue but was difficult to try and resolve prior to pickup.

Cons: -Many hidden costs, such us 20 cents per km extra charge -fee to cross into another province of 10$, turns out to be 10 $ a day actually - not able to talk to a supervisor - just able to chat, not calling - needed to purchase commercial insurance - not able and or willing to change the vehicle -In my booking confirmation it showes a commercial van, not a 24 foot moving truck who uses insane amount of fuel. It also says F150 or similar. I don’t consider a E-450 similar.

Pros: Routes is always my go-to rental spot in Ottawa. The staff is very kind and helpful. Cars are always clean and well maintained. I would definitely consider them to be the best rental company in the region!

They also only have one shuttle so we ended up waiting almost 30 mins at the airport to get picked up which was annoying.

Cons: We made a reservation (paid in advance) and called to say that our flight was delayed two hours. The company rep said the car might not be available anymore and we will have to wait until we arrive. The courtesy car to pick us up took 25 mins and we were only a 6 minute drive away. The uncertainty about our vehicle was stressful and could have been mitigated by honouring the agreement made, and the courtesy car was a waste of time.

When I complained, I was quoted back fine print. To me, this is tantamount to theft. Your service feels more like a scam than a legitimate business. Will never consider you in the future again.

Pros: Car was mostly as advertised. Was a bit stinky and slightly damaged, but manageable. I was told not to drive too far because the oil change was way overdue.

Cons: Getting a car was a mess. I stood in line for over an hour listening to people irate about all sorts of different things. The only staff working the front desk (who started with the company two weeks ago) was understanding and easy to deal with. Took a long time and when I got to the counter they didn't have a car for me. They finally found one that they weren't supposed to lend out due to long overdue oil changes. Lots of customers behind me were not getting cars. Will not book with Routes.

When I called sooner to confirm the airport pickup at 18:30, they told me they were closed at that time, but managed the stay open and sent someone to pick me up..super friendly staff

Cons: On the way home a truck tire exploded and fragments hit the vehicle, so far I have not heard back from the company with the information I need to file an insurance claim. It's been over a week.

Cons: Discovered the rental location was not at the airport and had to wait 20 minutes in the cold for a shuttle van. Car had a broken signal light. Rental location neglected to return my drivers license (found out after I drove 1.5 hours away - and they didn't want to ship it to me). I received the car when it was snowing hard but the car didn't even have a snow brush or scraper and I had to buy one. Dropping the car off took 30 minutes plus the shuttle back to the airport.

Agent said that customer just returned the car and they didn’t have time to clean. Agent said that I had to wait another 10 minutes so they can clean the car. They brought out another KIA instead with the same dirtiness as the first one, no difference. Agent advised that was the only car available, no other choice. I could take it or leave it. I had no choice .

I had face thousands of problem due to this unprofessional act by ROUTES CAR Rental. I will never go there again and never recommend to anyone.

Pros: The rental site was quite far from the airport so allow for a lot of extra time. Service was fine except they gave me a vehicle with an empty tank. I had to drive all over trying to find a gas station which wasted much more time. Also they did not clean the vehicle from the last renter so it wasn't very clean inside. However if none of this bothers you it's worth saving the extra money.

My wife noticed this 200km on the document so at first we though we were really screwed for millage since the form was not that clear it was a daily total but still we ended up getting screwed for mileage in the end. Plus it said 1000 kms difference form what was actually on the vehicle while still in Toronto. so i was peeking it like i am not going to pay for all this extra millage. They corrected the mileage before we left toronto.
