MEX RENT A CAR at Los Cabos Int. Airport

Pros: Quick service, polite, friendly staff.

Cons: Insurance from discovercar.com "was not enough Insurance to cover the liability" & I had to pay more money. Staff were pleasant & efficient but the car had several interior stains, crack in windshield & alot of body damages before my renting. Also had an early return rental fee that was not explained prior to renting.

Cons: Typical bait and switch. You think everything is paid for up front for a reasonable, but not cheap, price. Then when you get there, you notice a guy from a timeshare has a permanent desk in the lobby. Ok, so you are not interested in that so you go to the counter only to be told that you must buy Mexican 3rd party insurance "by law". We'll, that cost more than the entire rental and CDW coverage! Of course. Here comes the timeshare guy to conveniently bail you out by offering to cover it.

Cons: Not sure where to start. First of all, they force you to buy an insurance. The full insurance not even covers damages to the interior as well as other stuff that isn‘t included. Therefore, it‘s basically just fake. The car was in pretty bad condition with fixes everywhere. At least it broight us from A to B without issues.

Pros: After providing all that was required to waive the additional insurance to the counter agent (which included him speaking directly with my insurance agency and receiving emailed documents clearly showing proof of more than the necessary coverage), he continued to insist that it wasn’t sufficient. Clearly a scam! Too tired from the flight and after spending almost 2 hours jumping through their hoops the customer (myself) gives in so the vacation doesn’t start on bad footing...

Cons: MÉXCar is basically a bait and switch operation in Cabo. They insist on unreasonably high additional insurance coverage and make the language barrier an excuse to clearly justify. The vehicle provided was poorly maintained and high mileage

Pros: Very friendly staff and fairly easy process considering my limited Spanish and international travel.

Cons: On arrival, at the airport, there were many other people telling us that we "needed" to talk to them first before proceeding to Mex. This is not the fault of this company, but if you're not assertive and if you don't realize they're not associated with the rental company, you may spend a lot of unnecessary time there and possibly get sucked in to some kind of "deal". Just keep walking out to the Mex representative outside with a sign. Also, the insurance is where the big cost comes in.

The agent did not do an interior inspection nor did they have me do one and this was an issue upon return in La Paz. When I did the outside inspection the agent had the trunk already open and I forgot to take photo/video of the top when I finished photo/video - major mistake?? The Apple CarPlay never worked the entire trip and the staff in Cabo on couldn't fix it. Very frustrating!

Cons: Mex told us the insurance we bought from DiscoverCars.com was useless. They also somehow snuck in a prepayment for gas which I never wanted or would have agreed to (I returned the car fully filled up). And their office had a friendly but somewhat pushy person there pushing us to do a timeshare at Dream. It was just all a little confusing and sleezy.

Pros: Guy at counter was nice. Guy outside trying to sell tours, etc. was a complete jerk. When I told him I wasn't interested in anything else, he took the map that was supposed to be complimentary and ripped it to pieces.

Cons: Rude guy who worked for Mex that was selling tours (mentioned above) and the fact that they charge a non-refundable reservation deposit, then an additional $25+ per day for what they claim is mandatory government liability insurance. Talk about a bait and switch! Totally unethical and I will never use this company again.

Cons: I requested that the MEX agent at SJD airport cancel the "Full Coverage" that I had signed up for during the online reservation process, but they said that they were unable to cancel DiscoverCars.com's "Full Coverage" ("we have nothing to do with DiscoverCars.com), so I ended up paying more than twice the expected amount indicated during the reservation process. The SUV they provided me with was dirty/beat up. My first 2 hours in Mexico (ever) were very, very frustrating.

I ended up having to go inside after almost half an hour to ask them where the car was and then the gal behind the counter ended up having to go and get the car herself.

Their charges were beyond 30 dollars a day with an outrageous insurance amout in addition to what I paid you. Return my payment please as my payment was not made known to MEX Rent a car.

Cons: At the counter, the pick up took about an hour. They were busy and it seemed like there were not enough vehicles ready for clients so people were waiting. Our vehicle was being cleaned. Also, the cruise control on our vehicle did not work. Make sure you have all your insurance coverage and paper work as the agents will push you to purchase more insurance than required.

Pros: The people working there were very communicative, spoke English well, were reliable. We liked our rate and our car, and got very clear instructions for choosing insurance. All was perfect!

Cons: There is a little bit of a scam that happens. They tell you the price in dollars (with pesos underneath), but they don't make it clear that they are charging in pesos. Their personal exchange rate is beneficial to them and detrimental to us. It makes it so that they get to raise the amount they charge, and then when the credit card company gives the normal rate and converts it, the customer loses money. I was at first confused by the 21.00 MXN peso exchange rate, and now it totally makes sense.

Cons: I got insurance via Discover car. MexCar tried deceiving me, continually telling me that I am not covered for the rental. This was not true. What is true was, I was not covered by Mex Car because I purchased the insurance coverage through Discover Car. They could not simply say “You are covered, but not by US. You ARE covered by Discover Car.” They continually said I wouldn’t be covered. This makes me want to never rent from them again. Just be truthful and you have my business.
