America Car Rental at Los Cabos Int. Airport

Pros: Discover Cars is a 3rd party company, tha send me to a rental company that I was told to always go directly with them and you will pay less and without headaches.

Cons: I had to pay more than what I promised at reservacion time.

Pros: The car drop off process at America was quick. The agents spoke English, which was a relief.

Cons: 1. There was no Representative for Discover or America car at the airport, which led to a 4+hr car pick up delay. 2. The check in process was slow 3. The car wasn't ready even after spending 1hr checking in. They still had to wash the car before I could leave with it, which created another 30 min delay and very wet floor mats 4. Discover car had hidden insurance costs added in at the last minute making your offer the least cost effective option. 5. The car was cheap and in bad condition.

Cons: Secret outrages fees. We went with national and rented from them instead.

Pros: We had a horrible experience. We were given a different type of car than we ordered that was in awful shape. The car had a nonfunctioing headlight that we were not i formed about which made driving at night (when we first realized the headlight didn’t wirk) dangerous. The key to the car did not work electronically, only manually. They charged us $80 a day for liability insurance or refused to give us the car. We should have been told about this high cost in advance.

Cons: We were given a different car then we ordered and the car we were given had a non-functioning headlight and the key was out of batteries or otherwise didn’t work to turn on or off the alarm or open/close doors. We had to manually lock doors. The car was covered in little nicks and dents so that we had to video tape the whole car to make s We received the car with leas than half a tank of gas and, when we returned the car, they tried to charge us for gas. Fortunately, we videotaped the fuel.

Pros: Zero. To continue what we did NOT like about America Car Rental, when we contacted them about the flat tire, they said it wasn't their problem. Luckily we were near a Costco. We changed to the spare to get there. Luckily, it was only a bad air valve so was fixed easily.

Cons: Charged an additional $480 for required insurance. The car was in poor condition. Shortly after leaving the tire and engine lights came on. The process took so long and it was getting dark and we had to find and check into our condo so didn't return. Called both the Customer Service and Road Service numbers the next day and got a Spanish recording saying the phone #'s were disconnected. Halfway through our rental, the tire went flat.

Pros: The representative works on commission and that is based on the amount of additional insurance they sell you.

Cons: The best price for additional insurance they could give me was $70.00 USD per for a total of $980.00 USD for the two weeks.

Pros: Pleasant people to deal with, shuttle to and from airport.

Cons: The additional coverage and deposit required that we only found out about upon arrival to pick up the car. The website was not clear on that detail.

Cons: No shuttle at airport, lots of time and hassle trying to get to their office from the airport to rent the car

Cons: I had full protection from Discover and was pressured into paying for Supplemental Liability Insurance by America Car Rental. They insisted it was mandatory and ended up tripling the cost of my car rental from ~$250usd to $750usd. No choice but to pay when you want to get going and start your vacation.

Cons: Our experience was terrible; the car only had ⅛ of a tank when I picked it up. It took two hours to get the car, and there was no one to show us where to for the shuttle to the rental office. The SLI (Supplemental Liability Insurance) is mandatory by the policy of America Car Rental, which costs $134 for three days, and the rental price was less than 70 for three days, which increased the overall rental cost to almost three times the initially quoted cost by Discover car; this felt like a scam.

Pros: Total scam. See below. It seemed like a scan between American Car Rental and “Secrets” time share. Cost us about two hours of vacation time dealing with these scammers. We will be contacting Discovery to get a refund or go through American Express to get our money refunded. BTW we did not have to pay any outrageous insurance fees with Avis. All included for about &260 US dollars.

Cons: We had prepaid through Discover and when we got there they would not let us take the car unless we bought additional insurance at $660 US dollars. We showed them our contract and we’re told it did not provide enough insurance. In the American rental car office there was a man there offering the same car from American for initial $300 if we would attend a “Secrets “ time share presentation. Then he offered 175 and then for free. In the meanwhile we got online and rented a car from Avis. See above

Pros: The ease of booking online was very smooth and customer service was fine.

Cons: The insurance process was quite confusing causing me to purchase full insurance coverage ahead of time online at the time of booking only to find I had to make a new purchase all over again for insurance upon arrival to collect the vehicle. Thankfully the agent at America Car rental assured me Discover Cars would reimburse me for the advance online insurance purchase so please assist me with this at your earliest convenience. Cons: EVERYTHING. They are a total rip-off. They're located off-site making them difficult to find initially (no one welcomed us), they're issolated so once their you have few options, they refuse to accept any but their own insurance, etc. Our $297 rental ended up costing us $785.85!

Cons: The price on discover cars was not accurate. America Car made us purchase additional insurance and quoted us (handwritten quote), the price more than doubled. We had no other option so we had to pay for it. The car they gave us broke down the following day. They did bring us a new car, but we are trying to get some money off of the insanely expensive rental for the worst car imaginable. When we dropped it off, they tried to tell us we scratched it. Pros: They were very nice when we first walked in the door. That's about it.

Cons: They jacked up the cost of insurance so high that it literally almost trippled the cost of the car rental. We had budgeted about $700 and it ended up costing us more then $1100. I will never use America again. They also tried to nickel and dime us at the end on a little scratch that we did not create. Not sure where it came from. It was a used car with over 60,000 miles on it and tons of little dents and dings and they were going over as if it were a brand new Ferrari instead of a Nissan.

Cons: Charged us extra. We have rented cars in Mexico before and never had this trouble. America charged us extra for a smaller car and added a huge deposit. Unfortunately, we did not have cell service and couldn't get a ride back to the airport to get another car, so we had to use them. I hate making bad reviews, but I would never recommend them to anyone. Another couple came in after us and since we had already rented the car, we gave them a ride back to the airport so they wouldn't be ripped off.
