Pros: Picked up car from Knock Airport and drove to first destination. Went to leave to drive 3hrs to Cork later that day and car wouldn’t start. Wanted to get on the road asap as storm warnings were in place for the following day. Phoned Knock Airport Budget several times (within working times listed on website) and no answer. Phoned local office to where I was staying in Galway and responded quickly. They managed to get car started but conked out several times and agreed to swap car over.

Cons: By time car was exchanged it was too dark to travel to Cork, particularly as I was travelling alone and weather warnings were being given. Lost a day in Cork. Also no breakdown info given on collection. When dropping car off in Cork Airport it was explained that this info is on the booking voucher. Also sat nav bracket was broken and needed replacing before I could leave Knock.

Dirty bodywork I can live with, but the windows and mirrors were dangerously dirty so I had to clean them myself. Later on that day, I found a french fry by the drivers' seat. Unimpressive, to say the least.

Cons: When we handed the car back there was a man in the hut in the car park who couldn’t have cared less about us being there. He was sat in the corner on a sofa and couldn’t be bothered to come to the desk to talk to us. I tried to explain to him that the speedometer was set to miles an hour (mph) and that it really ought to be set on kilometres but he just said that an email would be sent to us. He was the one thing that let your company down.

There was a problem with the bonnet not shutting property and the drivers side rear tyre needed inflating. Fortunately I was close to Ballygar so I could get the tyre inflated. Quite the worst car I have ever got from Budget where the company name was appropriate to the quality of the car but not the price I paid for it. There is more to say….

Cons: When I tried to return the car at Knock there was no one in the office where we collected it. Just a sign to put the keys in a post box. So I went in to the terminal but the desk was unmanned. Another customer was waiting to collect a car. Eventually someone turned up but no one checked the car for fuel or damage. I thought this was rather unprofessional.

Cons: It was not made clear at time of comparison/before booking that a debit card is unsuitable, that a deposit is taken for a full tank of petrol etc. I was travelling with only one debit card and had budgeted strictly and so this really had a negative knock-on effect on the rest of my trip as my only option was to take out daily insurance which is charged at a higher daily rate than it would have been to purchase in advance online. The booking is also misleading as I didn't receive the car I chose.

We received no refund!
