Airport Car Rental
The capital of Hungary is often rightfully named among the most impressive cities of Europe. Home to both a fascinating imperial past and the unique Hungarian culture, it has plenty for any visitor to explore. These are three of Budapest’s most interesting attractions:
- Budavár. Also known as the Castle District or simply Vár, this is arguably the best-known part of Budapest. Attractions include not only the impressive Royal Palace Complex that houses the National Gallery and Lion’s Gate, but also the Carmelite Monastery, Fisherman’s Bastion, and, last but not least, views of the city and the Danube below.
- Baths. The therapeutic effects of Budapest’s thermal waters were known as early as Roman times but were especially explored during the Turkish reign of the city. Nowadays, Budapest is home to many beautiful spas and baths such as the Szechenyi Baths and Rudas Bath which serve both as places of relaxation and heritage.
- Angyalföld. Angyalföld, or Angel’s Field, is something of a hidden gem among Budapest’s neighborhoods. Often overlooked as it used to be a slum and now houses many high-rise apartment buildings, it has nonetheless seen great development over the last few decades and has such interesting attractions as Margaret Island, three beautiful synagogues, Lehel Hall Marketplace, and even the Witch Museum.
- Nyugati. It is rare for a train station to be one of the city’s main landmarks, especially in a place with as rich a heritage as Budapest, but the Budapest–Nyugati Railway Terminal is indeed worth a mention and a visit. Built in the 19th century by the Eiffel Company, the station is known for its splendid facade, spacious interior, and the Royal Waiting Room built specifically for the needs of the Austro-Hungarian monarch Franz Joseph I.
- Anker Palace. Not as celebrated as some other palaces and fortifications of Budapest (perhaps because of its relatively young age – it was only built in 1910), Anker Palace is nonetheless one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. Known for its curiously eclectic style of exterior, it faces the Deák Ferenc Square and is near a number of other notable landmarks like St. Stephen’s Basilica and the Ferris Wheel of Budapest.

We had a phenomenal trip! Four women traveling and never had any issues or ever felt unsafe. We did a circuit drive starting in Budapest to Split Croatia, Mostar Bosnia-Herzegovina, back into Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and returned to Budapest. Highlights were so numerous but especially Mostar, Diocletian Palace, Krka National Park, St. Stephens in Vienna, Banska Bystrica (Slovakia museum)

Needed a car from Budapest so we (5 people) could go to MetalDays in Tolmin, Slovenia. The car was great and easy to drive and there were no problems with it. We saw some of the beautiful mountains of Slovenia and had a great trip.

Renting a car at Alamo for a 5 day trip to Hungary which we extended to a 6 day trip during our trip was the best choice. Value for money was extremely well. At the airport we got served by a young man who was extremely helpful, efficient and friendly. He also extended our trip with one day in a very quick and flexible way when we asked for it. We rented 2 cars and got an upgrade foc on both of them. The cars were in a very good shape. Returning of the cars was very easy. We were allowed (because of a baby that we were carrying with us) to drop the car at the temrinal building. I have a lot of experience renting cars, but this was the best experience ever.

The public transport in Budapest is good. It is hard to find parking in Budapest, so you would get more benefit from a rental car if your are travelling outside of Budapest city in the countryside.

I would expect that car renting company would guide me through the Parking payment process in Budapest as paying with coins in parking machine is burdensome (lack of the coins when you need them). Instead - mobile payments with app "Simple" made our trip more pleasant.

Budapest can be a challenging city to drive in, plus car rentals can be expensive compared to neighboring countries. I’d highly recommend Schiller if you do rent a car in Budapest.
