Airport travel guide

T.F. Green Airport serves the city of Providence, Rhode Island, the largest city in the smallest state. As the airport serves all of Rhode Island, there is an effort to have it renamed Rhode Island International Airport. Aside from visiting historic Providence, travelers can visit the rest of the state and further parts of New England with a rental car from the airport. This is particularly convenient as the airport is centrally located within the region of New England.

Main airlines
The low-cost carrier Southwest serves the most passengers at PVD. In fact, almost half of the airport’s passengers fly with the airline. Its most popular destinations are Orlando, Baltimore, Washinton D.C., Fort Lauderdale, and Chicago-Midway.
American Airlines is the second-most popular airline serving the airport. It flies to and from its hub in Philadelphia and Charlotte.
Delta, flying connecting Providence with its hubs in Atlanta and Detroit; JetBlue, flying to destinations in Florida, and Frontier airlines flying to Orlando are the other major airlines serving the airport.
Terminals
Green Airport has one terminal with a total of 21 gates split across two concourses that are connected.
Location
T.F. Green Airport is located about 10 miles south of downtown Providence, a drive that takes 10 minutes if there is no traffic. Given the small size of the state of Rhode Island and the airport’s central location in it, PVD is the only major airport serving the state. It also serves parts of the neighboring states of Massachusetts and Connecticut. In fact, the airport is the official airport of the New England Patriots of the NFL as it is closer to Foxboro than Boston Logan International Airport.
Most popular types of rental car
- SUVs - from €69 per day
- Small cars - from €66 per day
- Medium cars - from €66 per day
- Large cars - from €66 per day
- Premium cars - from €73 per day
Car rental desks
All of the car rental desks are located in a specific car rental facility that can be reached from the arrivals area via the Skywalk, an enclosed elevated walkway. When returning a rental car, you will also walk back to the airport via the Skywalk.
Services and facilities
There is a Little Free Library location in the airport where you can leave and/or pick up a book to read. The airport also has a games room with arcade games for both children and adults to enjoy. There are ATM just past the security checkpoint. Free WiFi is available throughout the terminal.
There are two lounges at the airport. The Escape Lounge is available for all passengers for a fee (except American Express Platinum Card Members who receive free entry). The other lounge is a Military Lounge reserved for members of the military and their families.
When it comes to dining options, there are plenty, especially given the airport’s size. This includes a Dunkin’ Donuts in each concourse. There is also a Budweiser restaurant (and a to-go version), Providence Oyster Bar, Starbucks, Shipyard Brewport, John Rockets, Famiglia, and Wolfgang Puck.
Nearest gas station
A Sunoco station is located on the corner of Highway 1 and Coronado Road and all renters will pass it just before returning their vehicles. The station’s prices may be slightly higher than other stations in the area, but the station is by far the most convenient for renters returning vehicles.
