Airport travel guide

Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is a major airport serving the largest city in Kentucky. It is also the second-busiest airport in terms of cargo in the country as it's a major hub for UPS.
Lousiville is a popular destination not just for the horse races at Churchill Downs, but also for its old downtown and other areas of the city. It makes the perfect place for a relaxing weekend away.
Main airlines
Allegiant, American, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Spirit, and United are the main airports that serve Louisville International Airport. Together, they cover destinations around all around the country. Despite its name, there are no international flights (cargo comes in from abroad, though).
Terminals
There's one terminal in the airport with two concourses. There's only one security checkpoint, though. The terminal is not very big and can easily be walked around, though there is assistance available for anyone that needs it.
Location
The airport is roughly 7 miles south of Downtown Louisville. It takes about 10-15 minutes to drive there. I-264 goes right by the airport and I-65 is just one exit away, allowing you to get wherever you need to go very easily.
Most popular types of rental car
- Small cars - from $97 per day
- SUVs - from $94 per day
- Medium cars - from $97 per day
- Large cars - from $97 per day
- Premium cars - from $126 per day
- Vans - from $116 per day
- Convertibles - from $193 per day
Car rental desks
All of the rental desks are located in the baggage claim area. There's now a new garage just outside of the baggage claim area where you'll find the car after signing the agreement. You'll return it there too. There are no longer any shuttles needed.
Services and facilities
You'll find everything you need at the airport. There are plenty of options for places to eat from fast food to sit-down restaurants. There are also cafes, bars, vending machines, and shops.
Nearest gas station
Though it may look like there's a station at the airport on Google Maps, it is not in fact there. There are two stations (a Shell and a Speedway) one exit after the airport exit on I-264 (when approaching from the east). If approaching from the west, it's the same as the airport exit, but you have to go the opposite way from the airport when exiting. If approaching along I-65, you have to exit onto I-264 instead of taking the airport exit.
