Are there any restrictions where I can drive with a rental car on Maui?
Yes, most rental companies will not allow you to drive on unpaved and other dangerous roads. You'll likely be given a guide when you pick up your car that will have a map of which roads you can and can't travel on. If you travel on any of the forbidden roads, expect any coverage you have to be void, thus you'll be fully liable for any damage.
How old do I have to be to rent a car on Maui?
Like most of the rest of the US, you have to be 21 years old to rent a car in Hawaii (though for some vehicles, the age limit may be higher). You'll also most likely be charged a Young Driver fee if you're under 25.
Where are the car rental desks at Kahului Airport?
All rental desks are located in the Consolidated Rent-A-Car Center which can be reached by trolley from just outside the baggage claim area.
What if I plan to visit more than one Hawaiian island?
As there are no ferries between most Hawaiian islands, and also because rental companies don't allow their vehicles to be taken on ferries, you'll have to rent a different car on each island you visit.
