Airport travel guide

A place with a unique atmosphere, Bristol is one of Britain’s most interesting cities - some travellers actually prefer it to London, Manchester, or Liverpool. Located in the southwestern part of England, the city is characterised as much by its maritime history and industrial importance as it is by the art of Banksy and the hypnotic beats of Massive Attack. These are three of the most worthwhile attractions in and around Bristol:
- Aerospace Bristol. Built around a hangar from the First World War, this is one of the most interesting museums in the city. Made up of eight chronological exhibitions dedicated to different eras of aviation, the museum has an impressive collection of early fighter jets, iconic aeroplanes like the Concorde, and even satellites. Other great museums and galleries in Bristol include the Bristol Blue Glass workshop, the interactive We The Curious science museum, the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, and Bristol Zoo Gardens, which boast an underground tunnel and an aquarium.
- Street Art. Remaining anonymous to this day, Banksy is probably the most famous street artist in the world. Although little is known about his enigmatic persona, he is a native of Bristol where many of his earliest and best-known murals remain on display. Whether you join one of the street art tours or find works like Girl With the Pierced Eardrum on your own, this is one of the quintessential Bristol experiences.
- Brecon Beacons National Park. Bristol is located near England’s border with Wales, providing easy access to this fascinating part of the United Kingdom. A range of hills and a large national park, Brecon Beacons is characterised by long walking trails, thick woodlands, and stunning views. The nature preserve is home to species of wildlife such as Welsh mountain ponies, peregrine falcons, and red kites. The visitor centre of Brecon Beacons is 125 km (78 miles) northwest of Bristol and can be reached in about 90 minutes, but some parts of the national park are even closer. Other nature areas near Bristol include the Cotswolds hills to the north, the North Wessex Downs to the east and the Exmoor National Park to the south.
